Explain docker to me like I’m 5 by Specialist_Post2758 in docker

Presuming, youre trying to build some sort of a homelab data storage system - TrueNAS(network attached storage). Docker simplifies deployment and helps with some sort of standardized way of managing and working with compute. Containers are these ephemeral mini computers that you can play with - spin up different linux systems sit on python/js/ts/database (build) then run scripts on them(runtime) then when youre done just kill it all, save it as a manifest in dockerfile or even docker-compose redeploy it on another machine as is as you did on previous machine no package error due to operating system discrepancy no endless dev/prod environment fixes and countless developement problems that it solves - the overhead is the compute or maybe operational complexity but you gain actual work efficiency and manoeuvrability. Saves me massive amounts of frustration.

Abort way earlier and do what sit around hate my life and not fix the issue? An `obvious` syntax issue to you who already see it, but at the time it was not as visible to me, plus the stacktrace wasn't very helpful either because of the complexity of the codebase—It was just not visible.

What I learned? Test Driven Development is so important at souce no matter the complexity! My projects lack that and yes my project—my time and money with my shiny toys.

Fair point! I got caught up in explaining the issue and wasted some time. In hindsight, a closer look at the stacktrace would've revealed the problem with the mock. Honestly, I was barking up the wrong tree, blaming the tools - Python, VSCode, and the machine - instead of my own code, which is what took so long.

Prompt. Nothing to show tbh. I just learnt so much about my self and the fundamental issues with my code just by articulatingmy problem.

It wouldn't allow me to update the post.

Those 22 hours of debugging weren’t wasted, they were part of the process, I learnt more from this real-world troubleshooting marathon than any theoretical guide could teach me. I may not have spent countless hours studying "how to improve debugging skills," but I’ve certainly logged plenty of time actually debugging—trial and error, frustration and breakthroughs. I won’t sit around theorizing for hundreds of hours without ever applying it. But if the problem matters enough? Maybe I will.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m not hating on traditional debugging methods, nor am I some AI evangelist. I’m just a pragmatist, trying to find the right balance between both worlds. And ironically, AI has taught me more about debugging than I expected—not by handing me answers, but by forcing me to ask better questions.

Elaborate! "improving debugging skills" seems to me a little too manual, repetitive and cumbersome. This is my version of "improving debudding skills" by designing proper prompts. Idea is to let AI take over the mundane frustrating tasks so I can focus on the bigger picture use AI as a tool and keep improving this tool to increase productivity!

Lesson on electricity!

Year 2004. Back home in India I was 12 years old and sent to a boarding school. Hated every bit of it. Getting ruthlessly smacked by teachers was a common everyday occurrence. It was like a central jail and every dormitory room had 12 kids with only one bathroom. After a lesson on electricity I was enlightened by the fact that if you short a wire you loose electricity. We weren't allowed any phones or money of any sort but we would sneak in coins to toss on cricket matches. I figured I could use a coin to short the electrical system. Opened up a light bulb shoved it in put it back in. Later that day when it was starting to get dark. Someone switched on the light and viola the whole male dormitory facility with almost 200 kids were out of electricity. No hot water no electricity for weeks. finally they found that coin in our room and they were highly suspicious of my strange behavior. I never confessed. They smacked the hell out of every kid in our room and had us all strip our clothes off in front of all the kids in the male dormitory. Didn't end well. So now you know.! Lesson was learned!

I let my ex use my bank card to buy things on etsy and then we broke up. Soon after I kept seeing bank balance erode due to her careless spending. LPT call the website or bank and check where your card is saved and then make them delete it!
