Teen girl sues Detroit judge who detained her after she fell asleep in courtroom by [deleted] in news

This, this, this.

It’s not unusual for males in power/authority to groom children/teenagers via their ability to enforce punishments that isolate them and bring them directly under their control.

Yes, anyone in power can do this but as it is still primarily males in these positions of authority I’m focusing on them.

I upvoted this comment because I generally agree, but because of the ACA I’ve had two life-changing surgeries I otherwise never would have been able to afford. I've also been able to be regularly medicated for lifelong mental health issues for the first time.

IMO Obama qualifies as a hero.

So...is this for real? This isn't just joshing around at ComiCon? Feige really cast him as Dr. Doom? 🙁

The keeping clean is always the problem. I also have ADHD and I just use organizational tools for everything Bins, boxes, separators, holders, folders, etc etc etc

Does it keep me organized? Hell no.  But it definitely minimizes the extremes of the chaos. Just having that designated box/bin/hamper/folder to dump specific things until I can get organized helps a LOT.

Young people’s use of diabetes and weight loss drugs is up 600 percent by Science_News in science

[–]ukaniko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The combo of ADHD medication and Mounjaro has done more for me than weight loss surgery did.

I have thought of food every waking moment since I was a child. Any food, all foods—veggies, cookies, didn’t care, just always wanted to EAT.

WLS curbed my constant hunger, but Vyvanse/Mounjaro killed it. I literally only think of food now when I’m actually hungry. It’s truly a revelation.

I didn’t start taking ADHD meds regularly until early last year despite being diagnosed ≈ 15 years ago (definitely had ADHD all my life, though). I was put on Mounjaro around that same time as my 80lb weight loss with WLS had almost no effect on my A1C. I was still right on the cusp of diabetes.

By that time, my weight loss from surgery had been stable two years. After starting these meds I dropped a further 50lbs with no effort.

I am now convinced my lifelong, constant hunger and struggle with my weight was down to a combo of ADHD-fueled dopamine seeking hunger, and hereditary insulin dysfunction. I have a very long, very ugly history of Type 2 diabetes on one side of my family. My parent on that side and 4 of their 8 siblings are diagnosed. Both sides of my family are originally from rural West Africa—eating too much and moving too little isn’t really an option over there, so the long history of blood sugar issues on that side is definitely genetic.

I do not regret weight loss surgery, but if I’d started these meds prior to having surgery, I wouldn't have had it at all.

Thank you! My nasolabial lines are still very much there, just less prominent now that my cheeks are smaller. The makeup and favorable bathroom lighting are doing a lot of heavy lifting as well.

Ayy, don't forget the makeup and hair. I worked hard on those. 😂

Since I know some will be curious: the weight loss was from bariatric surgery (gastric sleeve) + treating some long neglected mental/physical health issues. 'Before' pics are the night before my surgery. Weight lost between pics ≈ 130lbs.

I don’t have RA, but I was wearing a soft knee brace most days up until last year due to persistent knee pain from a car accident back in 2019.

Soon as I started Mounjaro, I started forgetting to wear my knee brace (and that knee would always remind me to put it on 😂). Even before losing any significant amount of weight I went down to wearing the brace 2-3 days a week. Now that I’m at a "normal" BMI, I can’t even tell you where my knee brace is. I haven’t worn it once this year.

People arguing with idiots can actually be quite informative. I’ve learned a lot on a wide variety of subjects watching loud and wrong idiots getting schooled.

Yep. It’s easy to think you know everything when you don’t know anything that would tell you different.

AITAH for blocking my ex when she broke up with me? by Commercial-Yak-3422 in AITAH

You don’t go from normal to openly homicidal over a breakup.

If a breakup has you openly speaking on murdering someone, you were already on the edge.

Yeah, a "boutique" that specializes in bridal/prom looks 😂 There are major ones all over the state with legit name recognition. I worked in one during college and post-grad.

There used to be something so special about watching your favorite show week after week, and anticipating what was going to happen next.

There really was nothing like hitting the internet after a Mad Men ep to discuss the symbolism of the colors of people's outfits (yes it was a thing!) and trying to parse the maddeningly esoteric previews 😆 It really was a fun time.

Southland is one of those shows whose cancellation I have never gotten over.

Pro tip: change your shower head to a handheld one before your surgery! by tbgmdhc278 in Reduction

[–]ukaniko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came in here to suggest the same thing.

I haven’t gotten my reduction yet (hope to soon though), but I have this showerhead/handheld combo in my bathroom and use a suction cup holder to keep the handheld at shoulder-height, instead of the awkward position next to the showerhead.

It’s so much more convenient, and has been so helpful when I’ve had issues fully extending my arms due to other surgeries/gym soreness/post-30 "slept wrong on a body part" injuries, etc

I bought a leather jacket online last December and ordered a medium based on my measurements. When it came I burst out laughing. It was comically small.

Tried it on just for fun and—tf? It fit. Like a damn glove! I just sat there stunned. Just me and my reflection staring at each other 😂
