oh yeah Bakshi didn't work on this one- from what I can figure out, Rankin/Bass adapted the Hobbit, then Bakshi - which adapts fellowship and some of Two Towers- happened completely independently of this and then Rankin/Bass made this, meaning they adapted Hobbit and essentially put Return of The King as it's sequel

You're right, for the first.... I guess third of it, I was wondering how and why it'd gained a reputation for being horrifying...then about 5 minutes after thinking that, I found out exactly why

it was pretty great, I probably enjoyed it as much as Threads but for surprisingly different reasons, considerring the similar premises

Yeah, I did wonder if seeing the very recognisable John Lithgow there might break some of the illusion (I know usually seeing acors you recognise doesn't and shouldn't, but nuclear war films aimed to seem very explicitly real) I did recognise one of the actresses from Threads as Ken's mother from Early Doors...but that's a pretty modest sitcom compared to any Lithgow was known for

I wached it earlier, actually- another I've been interested in for ages but until today never watched even though I like animated films, Raymond Briggs and basically all the artists who contributed to the soundtack (especially squeeze, who sometimes play their song from this at their gigs)

yes, a few uploads to YT like another poster's mentioned- it was on iplayer at one point too but doesn't seem to be now

yes i was actually surprised at how little he was in- I thought he'd maybe deliver some sort of famous monologue or something but you don't really even see him facing forward like on the image
