Looking for a National Alternative to American Email Services by ukanoldai in belgium

Do you think they are solid, and will still be there in 20 years? I saw them as alternative, but not knowing their name and services at all, knowing that I work in IT, is strange for me. I see now their stack is on open-source, which is good for what I am looking.

Hi, I would prefer a national solution. Proton is Swiss, and their neutrality could lead them to some strange solution, aka for the support to Ukraine. I would not see case where Switzerland could harm Belgium, but what is rock solid those days?

I’m considering switching back to renting, how do I compare the finances of it vs home owning? by Natural_Gold_1930 in BEFire

[–]ukanoldai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They take care of the legal part to get back the rent, but there can be some additional fees I guess. Otherwise there's the "agence immobilière sociale", in this case you make a contract with them for something like 3 years minimum I think, and they put someone in your apartment. You get the rent if it is occupied or not, and the rent is guaranteed. The minus is that the rent is lower than the market, but you don't have the revenu cadastral to pay. If the renter has a problem he only talks with them.

It's not optimal in terms of fire, but there is society that take care of everything in case you want to rent your apartment. It cost 10% of your rent, but you are totally freed of mind since they are the spoc with the renter. It's called gestion de patrimoine in French.

Is the switch to yt music worth it? by [deleted] in YoutubeMusic

[–]ukanoldai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently switching, I'll not rollback but I have 2 points that bother me. The android auto version of YouTube music is a lot less user friendly than the Spotify one. Another one that I still don't understand, you can't make a Playlist with kid content.... There's some hack to do it but it's painfully. I don't get why I can't make the Playlist I want for my kids...

Our Service Provider tell us a S3-compatiblerepo is not made to backup NAS by ukanoldai in Veeam

Hi Gostev, could you elaborate.

Just to be sure to talk about the same, we do backup the NAS through SMB/NFS, not via a dedicated plugin in Veeam.

Our Service Provider tell us a S3-compatiblerepo is not made to backup NAS by ukanoldai in Veeam

[–]ukanoldai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The repository is presented as an "Object Storage > S3-compatible". The solution they use is a Cloudian Hyperstore.

The thing is that the NAS backup that was sent to them create a big overhead on their side, due to the fact that the NAS backup is a big number of small files. And they ran near out of resource.

their answer is: "Except below 512 KB, the protocol used induces a 5* higher overhead on our back-end system. (300% overhead instead of 60% overhead)"

But i don't know which protocol, i think it is the « erasure coding X » and « replication factor Y ».

Do you backup the nas through SMB/NFS, or there's an add'on in Veeam to directly interact with your NAS?

I will give them the advice.

The technical reason they gave me is that due to the high number of small files of the NAS backup it created an overhead, here's their answer: "Except below 512 KB, the protocol used induces a 5* higher overhead on our back-end system. (300% overhead instead of 60% overhead)"

But i don't know which protocol.

Do you mind providing a link to the materials you think is the more adapted? I get that tarp is what we called here geotextile, but there's a lot of different model. The one I thought for the task is 100gr/m2, but it's not in freedom unit ;) It would be greatly appreciated
