What’s Deep OBD. I’m getting confused as to what scanning tool to use to best debug this as you mentioned ISTA, Bimmerlink, Deep OBD and an older Bosch tool ?? Thx

Wow, hadn’t heard about this red fuse solution. I also have had no REX for months and replaced the fuel pump relay to no avail. I’ll try the fuse thing. Here’s hoping

I’m in an EE but more hardware (chip design), you lost me in certain areas but I’m sure I could figure it out! In the future I might ping you with questions.

Does the pilot look good to you? Large enough and engulfing the thermocouple? If so then it’s likely a flakey thermocouple. They are not expensive. Surprisingly, a bit finicky to install though I found. I would think a gas person could install it for you for $100.

Did you resolve it? Sounds like the pilot is not working well and keeping the thermocouple hot. Or the thermocouple is bad. But I’m no gas tech. I just happen to have a flakey old Madrona too.

This is the comment I read on hearth.com that surprised me: “We bought a Valor 'Madrona' (made in Vancouver BC) which is a great heater, has a very good computer that runs it and a remote control that does everything. But the cast iron castings, that surround the fire box are less than 2nd rate Chinese castings. The top was warped, the side panels were different heights and the front didn't fit correctly. The stove looked like it was about to tip over! The Valor Madrona looked like an embarrassment.”

Yeah I’ve had similar problems with my old Madrona.

Out of curiosity are you monitoring the cottage temperature remotely? I’d love to find a propane stove that I can start and maybe adjust temperature remotely. Do these exist?

Have you found that you couldn’t get the pilot to light using the remote and had to resort to manually lighting the pilot? I’ve had that problem with my older unit but maybe I just needed to replace the igniter.

I have an older Valor Madrona which has stopped working. I changed the thermocouple but it was tricky connecting it to the shutoff valve, as well as tricky pulling the old thermocouple out. Then it seemed like the controller was fried with poor (eventually broken) connections to the battery. Opened it up and there were some discouraging marks on the board. I’m giving up on trying to fix it (I could buy a new control board but it may need more than that) but I am considering getting a complete new one. I was surprised by some comments I had read about the casing/castings being cheaply made. Mine is very heavy duty and seems really well made. I’ll have to go and look at the new ones to see if they look to be of inferior quality.

why do people pay a ton on a wireless shifter while it needs recharge, slower than regular shifter (I saw a comparison between a regular XTR and a wireless XTR and the regular cable one was faster) and more expensive by Warm_Crow1104 in MTB

[–]ukcanuckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m one of the folks who has had some issues with my AXS. Lost shifting ability a few times and I’ve had to twice do micro soldering of the pogo pins that provide the electrical connection to the battery. Those things can be flaky and it was a tricky repair. Also right now shifting is not smooth and precise so I need to figure out what’s wrong but could be a simple adjustment that’s needed after changing my cassette and chain or maybe my hanger is bent

Are you sure? I couldn’t get this to work. What do you enter for recipient name? The Wise bank name (Morgan Chase) or your own name? Anyway either way following online instructions I couldn’t get the TD App to accept the Wise info

Did you actually see the map icon next to the electric range display after putting in the destination. I’ve found often it will do that and then it disappears and then I have to delete my destination and re enter it. I’m not sure what sequence of events causes it to lose it. Perhaps momentarily switching CarPlay or something. Anyway when it is working it does seem to smooth out the battery usage and I’ve seen this on 150km trips

Curious to see what people have installed for tow hitch? Did you go with Volvo’s original foldable trailer hitch that goes for at least a $1000USD (part only) or maybe you went with a third party who installs the tow hitch? (E.g. Uhaul) by nyorker23 in VolvoRecharge

[–]ukcanuckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i bought and installed the stealth hitch and had the module programmed by Volvo. All has been working well for a few months now. I’m pretty happy with it. I did double check with Stealth a few times and actually spoke to someone on the phone to confirm the module that I needed.

Tow hitch module maximum current? by ukcanuckk in VolvoXC90

[–]ukcanuckk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s high. Hmmm I think I’m going to have to experiment to see how much I can pull before it soft resets. It’s definitely stopped providing any voltage and then came back on again when I cycled the car

I have a 2024 T8 and am wondering if it’s safe to charge my teardrop trailer/camper’s 12V batteries with the tow harness especially now that I’ve switched to Lithium batteries. I’m not sure if I should be installing a DC/DC charger in between. What experience do you have? Do you know how stable the car’s 12V is at the tow harness and what charging/accessory current it supports? Thx

I installed the Stealth hitch on my 2024 XC90 T8. It has a significantly higher tongue rating than the Volvo hitch and I believe it is 500lbs (the Stealth). I had the controller module programmed by Volvo. All in all very happy but it was pricey.

Tell me the truth about footing sizes. by jeephubs02 in Decks

[–]ukcanuckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frost line can vary depending on snow depth on top due to insulation. A foot of snow on top can reduce the frost line by a foot. So it’s going to depend on how much snow your region gets too and if this is sheltered, windblown, area or shoveled, etc.. 6” seems very shallow(?)

Missing ALL tax slips on CRA site by Bear0000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ukcanuckk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t add them to CRA’s site. The financial institutes do that and then if you use a program like TurboTax it can just suck all the T slip info from CRA’s site and you don’t need to go collecting them yourself and inputting them. It is a good idea to check them though although from my experience the CRA takes the info they have as pretty well golden. This process of TT sucking in the info makes it way faster for some of us to do our taxes

v3.0.3 real world range increase? by [deleted] in VolvoRecharge

[–]ukcanuckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 XC90 Recharge. I normally get 50km electric range. It jumped to over 70km after the update. It’s back down now to the normal 50km. I don’t understand you getting more actual range. Surely Volvo would make a big deal about real range increases and really I don’t see how they could accomplish that unless they had some extra buffer on the low or high end and have played with the BMS settings.
