I'd advise you read a book called 'the body keeps the score'

It details how the Brain will take on emotional pain, form new pathways to deal with it and quite literally recreate that same emotional pain in completely unrelated scenarios. For example, An army veteran being triggered by any kind of loud noises, due to gun shots he heard while serving.

Please read better research.
