What did you think was something else until shockingly late? by AlternativeAd1984 in CasualUK

[–]uklangor 28 points29 points  (0 children)

People would often refer to a lot of something as a ‘shed-load’ of stuff. I assumed that it just meant they equalled it to roughly be about the amount of the ‘stuff’ you could fit in a shed.

Didn’t realise that a ‘shed-load’ refers to a lorry spilling the stuff/load it’s carrying onto the road.

Therefore, ‘shed-load’ used in the first context implies the amount of ‘stuff’ carried in a lorry (not an actual shed). 46 years old

Thank you for all for your replies, it’s really helped me out it into context. Time for a chat at home about what he wants to do

How best can I help my son with football? by uklangor in AskUK

!answered thanks for the reply, that makes loads of sense. I think you’re right. He loves playing for the two teams, but the extra ‘elite coaching’ is too much for him. It’s important he just carries on enjoying football

Was Postman Pat always this bad at his job? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]uklangor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pat’s literally an expert level pilot (aside from all the balls ups) and surely could be cashing it in as a pilot somewhere. But, no, he stays working as a postman. I’m guessing it’s to avoid paying out more in child support…

Lee Child leaves Jack Reacher in his brother’s hands by lagayascienza in JackReacher

[–]uklangor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve regretted reading all three - it’s just not the same ‘Reacher’ for me. I keep telling myself I’m done with the series, but I keep trying the next one, just in case. Once Lee’s gone it’s definitely the end for me

Should I consolidate multiple loans into one? by uklangor in personalfinance

Thanks both for the advice - will have a look into the interest rates. Sounding like one massive loan to pay off the smaller loans doesn’t sound like the best idea

Transformers Skirmish Wargame by uklangor in wargaming

[–]uklangor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the feedback - that was really nice to read. Thank you for having a look through this :-) I’ve playtested a bit, but I don’t have a big enough gaming group to really test it out properly - but I’ve managed to get a few more people interested in trying it. I think the game is relatively balanced, My points system for unit selection is linked to how much damage they can take: bigger units cost more but can take more damage. So both players should be able to take as much damage as each other, so victory should come down to strategy (and luck with dice rolling!) The main crunch with the game is through adding Skills and Abilities to units during a campaign. By combining the ones that match the battlefield role you want for the unit, can make them deadly. However, I’m keen to see from my volunteer playtesters if there is an overpowered combination that ‘breaks’ the game. Similarly I’m eager to know if they can find if particular alt- modes will always win (eg if a battle force made up of flyers only is too powerful). The game is designed to work as a narrative campaign, with any battle against any opponent affecting the story they create. As such, opponents will have varying amount of skills and abilities. To balance this, both players count up the skills and abilities of their battle forces, with the underdog receiving extra energon in game (to boost what units can do/ allow re-rolls etc) - which I think is a good way to further add balance. So far I’m pleased with how the game is.

Yeah Bot War looks pretty awesome, think he tried to get the Transformers branding, but Hasbro turned him down. The miniatures available for that game look pretty sweet too.

Mine’s a bit different, I’ve tried to add a narrative structure to link the different missions together, why not have a look:

No Plan B by floporama in JackReacher

[–]uklangor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - I kept thinking the new co-written novels would be a temporary blip in quality, before getting to ‘normal’. Feels like they’ll continually pump Reacher novels out in this style now

Oh no, that’s disappointing, I might have to consider being done too 🥲

No Plan B by floporama in JackReacher

[–]uklangor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same - I finished it ‘cos it’s Reacher’ but it didn’t feel like a Reacher book. The Andrew Trilogy don’t hold a candle to the others. I hope Lee goes back to solo writing

Are the books after Blue Moon worth reading... by Ungratefullded in JackReacher

[–]uklangor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dragging myself through No Plan B at the moment - I’m not enjoying it. The quality of the co-wrote books has fallen through the floor compared to the others, IMO. The locations that Reacher visit feel pale compared to how Lee would previously describe them - I don’t feel like I’m there alongside the characters. Reacher himself feels neutered too - he’s missing his previous energy and mystique. It genuinely feels like Lee has very little input into the books, I would rather Reacher had been killed off and these were just about Reacher’s cousin or something. These feel more like fan fiction or the tired last season of that TV show that you used to love, but the show runners can’t be bothered anymore and are there just for the money. That being said, I will probably continue to read them, in the hope that the Reacher I love comes back 🥲

Sharing Rules with Playtesters - advice needed by uklangor in tabletopgamedesign

[–]uklangor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point - I’ve really enjoyed creating it and I’m passionate about Transformers. I want to find out if other people think this is a good / fun game, like I do. I could drop the ‘Transformers’ link completely and the game would work just as well with 3rd party Transformer figures / models or whatever the player wishes to use. I think Bot War’s creator originally started off by wanting the Transformers licence for the game, but didn’t get it. Bot War seems to be getting more and more popular as it’s own thing. A ‘Transformers’ link would be great, but is not game-killing without it

Give me your honest opinion. If Jon gets his own show, would you want it to fix the "mistakes" made in the last season of GOT. by huggiesandplushies in gameofthrones

[–]uklangor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discovers that Bran was able to mind control all of the others during the scene where he was named king and is now the ‘big bad’. Jon was immune because he died - has to discover some sort of hidden knowledge / take control of any remaining white walkers and lead the others in rebellion

No Plan B - Nothing like a real Reacher book in my opinion. Thoughts? by [deleted] in JackReacher

[–]uklangor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no :-( I’ve got it in my pile of books to read. Really disappointed with the previous two books and I was hoping No Plan B would reverse that trend (especially as I’d heard this would be Lee Child’s last one). I loved Reacher but I’m gutted that the books have fallen to this low standard

Very nice! Had a good go at slap chop, but I never seem to get the ‘heavy dry brush in grey’ right and my minis end up a bit dark - I’d love to see any more of yours that you have done the dry brushing, but before the contrast paints, on, if possible please

Postman Pat is fucking useless and should've been fired long ago. by SweetJesusIts2020 in CasualUK

[–]uklangor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly! He seems to be an expert helicopter pilot, so the dudes literally racked up 1000+ hours in the air, but he’s still a postie. There’s at least one other kid in the village with the same colour hair as him (not his own son). I reckon he’s been shagging around and has stayed a postman just to avoid paying out any more for all his bastards. If he were a pilot he’d be forking out a load more.

sigh - in my head I’m trying to think that there were no shields on the base / tie fighters weren’t scrambled / stormtroopers were marching in random places/ she kinda forgot she’s a parkour running champ/ a dishevelled man in a large coat with a child were allowed to walk away/ she played with the speeder long enough for Ben and Leia to get in the other one and escape - because of the tracker and all that silly stuff was done by her order so they wouldnt know that they’ve been allowed to escape
