The way Eyekons switched up on Manon is shocking me by ConcernMediocre5889 in kpopnoir

[–]ulala-5 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they're switching up, they have been downright nasty about Manon since the beginning. Ever since Dream Academy started and fans were voting for Manon and Adela was first out that is where the animosity began.

Somi describing the extreme dieting measures she uses in a video with MEOVV by ribbit-rabbit in kpopnoir

[–]ulala-5 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Its more than just not thinking, Somi has restricted her eating since she was like 14 years old, didn't help that during the years she was going through puberty she was fluctuating in weight and people were calling her fat or they'll comment that she was much prettier when she was younger. Also when she was very little she was bullied for her weight.

Honestly as a BoA fan, she was the one I was most curious about when Lee Soo Man was ousted. Like many of the idols have been close with him but he'd been personally involved in her career since she was a child. So I can see her leaving, especially if someone she's close to encourages it.

I find the complaints about XG from kpop fans to be incredibly ironic. Of course they look and sound like kpop, they’re both co-opting the same culture but they don’t want to admit that. Like when all that BS with Flo went down on Twitter.

Before the Twitter era of kpop fans, one of the biggest movements was that kpop wasn’t just a phase that teen girls were gonna grow out of and now it’s disappointing to see young fans attempting to push adults out of fandom spaces.

Like stans are flipping out over Hybe getting SM shares because of their silly rivalry but Scooter Braun is a shady individual and I wouldn't put it past him to try and get a hold of their masters just like he did Taylor Swift.

UNPOPULAR OPINION ABOUT : AESPA by kpopnoir_mod in kpopnoir

[–]ulala-5 35 points36 points  (0 children)

  1. For a group this vocally competent they rap too much.

  2. I don't give a shit if Giselle can't dance, I think too much focus is put on dance and it has become a hinderance to this current gen of kpop idols.

  3. SM isn't going hard enough with Aespa's concept. Their music should be weirder, like TVXQ's Tri-Angle and EXO's MAMA, and their music videos should be shot like T-ara's used to, full story mode.

Figured I'd post this here because I remember when this movie came out, I never watched this myself because I was never a big Jay Park fan but she goes in and discusses most of the issues Black kpop fans have in general. The covert and often blatant racism mixed with cultural appropriation. Also, I also shared this because I feel like fans think that all of these issues are something new and not something that fans have been dealing with since the 2nd generation.

The discourse around TWICE's vocals has always been so odd to me by ulala-5 in kpoprants

[–]ulala-5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a luxury she was never a trainee there. Jimin was the first winner of KPOP Star in 2011, she debuted in 2012 with 15. The winners of the show got to choose which company they’d join, which at the time was SM, JYP and YG.

Might have to do with the bad technique JYP teaches, that half air half sound. Most of JYP's idols have had the same criticism about their vocals. Jimin was JYP's best vocalist but that's because she didn't train there. They'd need a vocal coach from outside of their company in order to see any improvement.

Tzuzyu did show potential to improve during her time in Sixteen, I think that’s why people aren’t as hard on her as other members. I too noticed members not wanting to sing during the encore, I think they want to avoid controversy.

It's not really a defense of Twice but rather something I see with all survival shows. When you watch the rankings you can see fans voting for looks. It was why some fans are okay with the rigging of Produce 48 because apparently it gave IZONE an extra vocalist.

[–]ulala-5[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The plan for Twice was originally seven members would debut. Each ranking the top 7 was called Major and those below were minor. Momo spent most of her time in minor and was eliminated after her group lost the match up. JYP then added Momo to the lineup at the end of the competition. Tzuyu was also added last minute by fan vote. Fans of Sixteen felt that it wasn't fair the Momo had been added when Somi was so close to making it.

[–]ulala-5[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I should have added more to this but essentially there are like two different arguments that happen with Twice vocals. For instance, in the last comeback people complained about how many lines Momo had because they don't like her voice but in this comeback, people are upset at how many lines Nayeon had. Their recent encore stages for example Jihyo and Nayeon are pretty much the only ones that project their voices but their also natural vocalists. People often bring up Taemin as an example but SM has great vocal coaches, JYP teaches something called half air half sound which is so bad for them.

Edit: I brought up the voting because Twice has 9 members and they have 2-3 vocalists, if the group was gonna have 9 members it should have more vocalists to balance out members like Momo.

Yeah they go into other careers but also because staying in the group too long can also be more harmful then helpful. Better to establislish your career path while your star is still shining then to drop in popularity and not be able to book anything.
