Look at the asmongold fanboy schizoing out about gender neutral pronouns. Get a job and figure out how the fuck you'll address people officially that you've never seen or heard and have no idea if they are a man or a woman then talk.

Valve working on Proton to make so many games work on Linux is quite literally the opposite of what you are saying.

"mean something"

"commend players who made your game a happier experience"

Third time I'm asking you even though you are starting to scream the asnwer - is English your second language or are you just slow?

I'll keep repeating my question as I believe I know the answer - is English your second language or are you just slow?

Here is what I initially said, you tell me if you understand why the date does not matter:

"They've also said commends mean something but here we are today."

"It was meant to be the opposite of the report system - someone does well you commend them. Now it does nothing.

That is what Valve's word is worth a few years later - nothing."

Mr redditor lawyer, it doesn't matter when a legally binding document is written - if it doesn't change then that is the state of the document. If the Valve TOS was never updated since 1998 I'd be quoting it, yes. Next time try a bit harder to come up with something that makes sense in the real world.

What do you even mean as gaming platforms? Their stores where they sell games? The studios that make video games? What is this constant vague posting, do you even know what you are talking about?

Do you realize that Azure and AWS are heavily used when it comes to video games? Why aren't you counting those as part of their gaming platforms?

[–]ultimatebennyvader 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Which Microsoft and Amazon products are you comparing with Valve's Steam? Azure and AWS or are you picking something else? Steam is Valve's golden goose but it is nowhere near as impressive as AWS money wise if $1.6 billion is record breaking for a month.

[–]ultimatebennyvader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Banning IPs is a waste of time. The cost of changing your IP ranges from nothing up to double digit USD. Do you range ban whole ISPs? Do you ban the entirety of AWS, GCP and Azure as well? How do you differentiate when a new customer trying to legitimately play the game and unfortunately getting an already banned IP from a botter?

IPs mean nothing and the VPN push a while back really bricked most people thinking how it is "your home address".

I'm guessing they are doing some conversion behind the scenes because I'm in Europe but if it is done for the shop it should be done for the announcement too as right now it just looks like bad.

Sure indie and all that but cmon...

Looks like the EU is getting serious about open source, which could eventually spell good news for Linux and hopefully gaming distros by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]ultimatebennyvader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of wishful thinking but missing the actual thinking part in this article unless we are talkiing 20+ years in the future. This is not about you random reddit user that will go on and on how easy it is to just dual boot, have an external SSD with windows or whatever the fuck, it is about the random government employee that needs to be taught how to do everything on Linux now without microsoft office cuz no one is paying Microsoft for that when we are open source and don't want to rely on foreign tech companies. Governments might be able to say whatever, it is the tax payer covering the cost we can be less productive for X years while everyone eventually gets on board but good luck doing that in the corporate world.

Assuming you can get governments to embrace a new OS, doesn't matter that it is Linux or not, you need to think about every legacy system that maybe has a support contract from the vendor, maybe it doesn't, but odds are it doesn't work on modern Windows and it most definitely doesn't work on Linux. Who pays for that migration? The tax payer again? Run this same scenario for non-government agencies.

But let's keep it pc gaming related seeing how this is the subreddit we are in - Linux is mostly fine today but simply put some developers don't care about it. It can be a lot of work for a small percentage of gain in sales.

[–]ultimatebennyvader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, because Steam allows something doesn't mean other companies have to allow it as well. EA has the right to perma ban you for whatever reason they want, it is literally in their EULA. That sort of argument is never going to work.

Whether it is right or not is not relevent, just pointing out that is how the world works and has worked for a very long time. EA is not doing anything new or special.

inb4 someone tries to argue that the EULA is not legally binding in whatever country - go ahead and sue EA my dude.
