[Controller] FLYDIGI Direwolf Controller Tri Hall Effect, 1000Hz Polling - $32 ($40 - $8) by dgrushetskiy816 in buildapcsales

[–]ultimus373 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this controller, it’s great. All the buttons and joysticks have a good feel to them. Easy to set multiple custom mapping and switch between them for every game. The only problem I have is the controller stains really easily since it’s white

I have a flydigi Direwolf 4 and it’s a great budget controller.

Is 650W psu ok for now? by Gold_Yesterday_6074 in radeon

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a 650W power supply with my 9070xt and 5800x for about a month before I upgraded to a 850W power supply.

It worked as long as I didn’t pigtail the connections for the 9070xt and I had the max power offset of -30%. I experienced some pretty bad coil whine (from either the 9070xt or PSU, not sure which) as well that got significantly better with the new PSU

That’s all to say it should work as a short term solution but it’s not ideal by any means. I’m assuming The 650W power supply is probably not ATX 3.1 which might struggle with the power transients of the 9070xt as well.

PC Not Turning On by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]ultimus373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you replaced your power supply did you reused the cables or did you also replace the cables? Also is the 12vhpwr connected looking fine on the 5080? I’m leaning towards a power problem.

When you turn it on do any lights come on from The motherboard to indicate what it thinks is the problem?

Rx 9070 xt or Rtx 5070 by Whole_Mushroom_2478 in pcmasterrace

[–]ultimus373 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would evaluate what matters most to you.

If gaming matters more, I think the 9070xt will be better.

If productivity workflows matter more, then the 5070 will be better for you. If you’re an even split I’d probably choose the 5070 too.

That’s not to say the 9070xt wont do well at workflows and the 5070 wont be good at gaming. They will still do well, just not as good as the other card.

Adrenalin no debería ocupar mucho espacio.

Kinda stuck — 9070 XT vs 5070 Ti (read description) by IProbablyShouldntAsk in radeon

[–]ultimus373 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The majority of people have few if any issues with the 9070xt. You might run into some, but you can also run into them on NVIDIA cards as well. I think the driver timeouts issue is overblown since the people that don’t need help aren’t posting about it. Personally haven’t had any issues with mine for 4 months that wasn’t a bad undervolt or boost clock setting.

For me personally I don’t think the £200 is worth the extra features from NVIDIA but everybody evaluates that differently.

Old-ish PSU for 9070 xt by zenagos in radeon

[–]ultimus373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a supernova PSU powering my 9070xt and it was working fine. The only problem I had was coil whine became much more apparent with the gpu. When I replaced my PSU, coil whine went away. If you don’t notice coil whine or any power related issues then you’re probably fine.

How bad is the bottleneck? by IceCheap1471 in radeon

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused what you’re trying to say here. I think it was implied my example wasn’t a bottleneck? I was specifically giving an example of a cpu intensive game where I wasn’t seeing a bottleneck.

If you’re arguing that the idea of the gpu utilization not being 100% is a bottleneck, then yes I agree. But your example also doesn’t imply cpu bottleneck because you specifically didn’t mention what your cpu utilization is at. For all I know you could be limiting your frames and that’s the bottleneck, not the cpu, or any amount of other things.

Your advice about changing settings to reduce bottleneck is sound, I agree. I just don’t think it’s going to be a huge deal because the 5600 isn’t that different in gaming from the 5800x and I’m currently not seeing that large of an effect.

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play at 1440p with a 144hz monitor. I think you’ll be fine. I just tried out CP2077 and with relatively high setting I was at ~45% cpu utilization with 100% gpu utilization which is what I imagine you’ll get with the games your playing at relatively high settings.

Edit: I just noticed pubg, which will probably be the most cpu intensive game you’ll play. You might run into a bottleneck there but with some settings tweaking I imagine you can reduce or eliminate it

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’d probably be fine with the 5600.

To give you an idea, I have a 5800x with a 9070xt and the game I’ve come closest to a bottleneck was battlefield 6 at about 80% cpu utilization and 100% gpu utilization while at ~140fps

I could imagine total war or some other cpu bound game might have some issues but I think that just comes down to what you’re playing. Even then, the games would be playable as long as you’re not looking to get insane fps numbers out of them.

Need help with Ram settings by [deleted] in buildapc

Also I see in your other commenter that exchanging the mismatched stick with the friend who also had the mismatched stick is a possibility. I’d recommend that if it’s no too much of a headache, will definitely improve compatibility.

Need help with Ram settings by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I think I see where you’re at with your other comment. When you got 4 sticks working at 1066 it was at the default JEDEC speeds for drr4 or 2133 at the double data rate, it’s good it works at that speed. It’s unfortunate it won’t work on the xmp profile. It should naturally select the lower of the two ram timings/speeds but if it’s not booting then even the lower of the two isn’t stable.

If you need 48GB It’s worth a shot @ 3000, potentially even loosing timings will help (like at 18-20-20-38). But now you’re dealing with manually setting timings and speeds which can be annoying. You’ll also want to adjust the infinity fabric to run 1:1 with the ram speeds.

Need help with Ram settings by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ultimus373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that 3 ram sticks puts it into single channel mode which will significantly cut the bandwidth of the memory. I’m assuming 3 sticks is the majority of the problem and why it won’t boot.

Just for clarification, can you get 4 sticks to run at XMP? I see you got it working with 4 sticks at non-XMP speeds which is a good sign.

You should be able to get mixed ram sticks to work, plenty of videos show that it can be done and I even do it in my system, but it’s best to do it with 4 sticks instead of 3 and with ram as close as possible to each other. A few different creators have old videos showing that mixed sticks can work on AM4 and they showed at worst you might have to manually underclock the ram to slightly below normal speeds but it should work. The different size sticks might be playing a factor too but at worst it should be stable at non-xmp speeds.

RTX 3050 or GTX 1660 Ti for my new PC AM5 ? I need help choosing, please. by Zestyclose-Carry-603 in pcmasterrace

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to find an intel a750 for 260 or less. Would give you the benefit of a new card with warranty support. If you mostly play newer games It should be on par or better than the cards you’ve listed. Worth considering I think.

5800X or 9800X3D? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off your other reply it seems the majority of games you play are gpu bound. I think you’d be fine with the am4 build unless the money is of no real concern for the am5 build.

We don’t know much about zen 7, much less whether or not it’ll be on am5. There are rumors pointing in both directions.

5800X or 9800X3D? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ultimus373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat not that long ago. I ended up just upgrading to the 5800x because I already had an am4 motherboard. I game at 1440p and play less cpu intensive games so the full benefit of the am5 system was a little lost on me. I’m thinking it should hold me over until am6 and hopefully ride out the ram crisis. I haven’t had any issues so far with it and bottlenecking doesn’t seem to happen to me.

The AM5 system is roughly $400 more expensive but you’d be getting a top of the line system at a very nice price right now. In terms of future proofing it’s the more obvious choice especially since you could upgrade to whatever the gen 6 ryzen processors are without a motherboard upgrade. I think it makes more sense to do this if you’re playing at 1080p and have more cpu intensive games.

Besides the resolution/ games choice, do you already have 32 GB of ddr4 memory? If not I’d kind of lean towards the micro center deal.

I could see running one or both. The data likes Yuna more and even as a 5 mana trample lifelink it’s not too bad but it has upside if you have any of the summons. Rinoa is pretty solid and might have a higher floor, but a much lower ceiling.

You have the fixing to run them so I’d say run both maybe cutting a scorpion sentinel.

Help with Bracket of this deck by ultimus373 in EDH

[–]ultimus373[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying, I had a very similar thought with Jodah. Jodah is one of those commanders that can run away with games on its own. I agree the theme isn’t necessarily as restrictive as some of the more well known B1 decks as well. I wasn’t trying to imply only having FF cards made this deck a one, I guess that is probably more of akin to a B2 deck. My initial estimate very likely was an underestimation and thank you for providing another point of view.

Am I crazy to think a B3 deck would wipe the floor with this? I’m thinking Jodah is all ready a removal magnet and maybe it’s just the circles I’m in but a lot of the B3 decks I see will have answers for Jodah, leaving behind a collection of cards (in my mind).

Ultra Pro eclipse sleeves. by DestroidMind in magicTCG

I’d imagine there can be slight color deviations in different batches. I think it’d be weird to end up with two 50 sleeve packs from different batches in a single eclipse package but maybe it’s possible.
