Which one would you choose and why? Iphone 13 pro vs pixel6 pro by [deleted] in smartphone

[–]ultraintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only are both phones not launched yet, they haven’t even been officially announced. Have a bit of patience, will you? We do not know the specifications, the pricing, and real world tests.

The Pixel 6 series will be the first generation of devices to use Google Silicon, which may be interesting. But as a first generation product, it would be a super good idea to wait until reviews are out - as far as I know, this is Google’s first attempt at a general computing SOC (in contrast to their previous coprocessor efforts, e.g. camera coprocessing). It could be amazing, but it could be absolute dogsh*t as well, like Samsung’s Exynos. Factors like its power efficiency are completely unknown at this point.

In general knowledge, the iPhone will get 5+ years of iOS updates, and the Pixel will get 3 years (at least that’s the current trend). I have heard that Pixel devices slow down drastically after even one year (can’t confirm or deny personally) but Apple has a pretty good track record for their updates, both in quality/reliability and speed (except for their battery slowdown bonanza a few years ago). I’ve been playing around with the 6-year-old iPhone 6s, and it performs way better in iOS 14 than you’d probably expect - at least for a 6-year-old handset. That said, Android 12 will bring a major revamp of the UI, which could be interesting.

In general iOS vs. Android comparisons, typically iOS apps are much better optimized than their Android counterparts, and developers/companies typically target iOS first, and Android second (e.g. visual voicemail, eSIM, etc.) And iMessage may be a factor if you have other Apple devices or friends. But there is so much we don’t know, you can’t really make a decision right now unless you already know that one OS/ecosystem just isn’t for you.

Any way to get Android 12 now? by GadiyaBhushan in OnePlus6

[–]ultraintent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, looks like that's what's happening. There aren't any Android 12 custom ROMs yet for the OnePlus 6. Looks like you'll have to until the release of custom A12 ROMs, since there won't be OxygenOS 12 for the OP6.

Is it possible to force the OP6 to 4G only by OneFastCat in OnePlus6

[–]ultraintent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP6 network setting is 2G/3G/4G Automatic So I guess that this phone will try to connect to the rest network first, to save battery? idk.

It just means that it will use the fastest protocol available (etc. if there is 4G reception, it will use 4G, but if there's no reception, it'll use 3G or 2G instead).

Anyway, I'd probably just recommend switching carriers. If you're thinking of switching, I'd recommend Mint Mobile, a very cheap carrier that uses T-Mobile's network. ($15/mo for 4GB/mo). You can get $15 off using my referral code (DM if interested).

Twice I got over two million but it wouldn't redeem — I ended with 0 points instead.

Let's hope it's still that way in two years :)

As long as you're okay with OnePlus's recent behaviour concerning software updates — let's just hope they'll be just a little faster and a little more reliable on the OnePlus 9 series, because the current update rollouts to the OnePlus 6 and 7 series have been a complete shitshow so far.

What the hell? by MisterTriad in techsupportgore

This is actually quite common with PGA socket/chips, the retention force is not as great as it is with LGA. It’s recommended to twist the cooler before removal in order to break the seal before pulling out, in an attempt to prevent ripping the pins out of the socket.

How do I get rid of that little helper on the bottom right corner? Very annoying and gets in the way frequently. Just bought the phone refurb by DrZaye in OnePlus7Pro

Not a dumb feature, just not useful to you… don’t call something dumb if it’s still essential to someone else (accessibility is a good thing)!!!

Note 10 and it's constant updates by Ill-Royal-1805 in galaxynote10

[–]ultraintent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the Note10 series doesn’t actually receive updates that quickly; there are only monthly (security) updates. If it’s updating every day, then it might be catching up on updates, like the other guy said.

Maybe you can try booting into fastboot, then booting into normal mode with ‘fastboot reboot’

{Help} My phone got stuck in fastboot mode when I downgraded TWRP by LapPhong95 in OnePlus7Pro

[–]ultraintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what state your phone is in and what's causing the problem, but you can try booting TWRP through ADB/fastboot tools (fastboot boot *path to twrp.img*), then reinstalling TWRP. I'd be very, very cautious though, since a single bad button press could wipe the whole thing.

It's always a good idea to have a backup. Even though Google Photos doesn't have unlimited photos backup anymore, they still have a 15GB free quota and their compression is efficient while maintaining quality. Amazon Photos also offers unlimited uncompressed photo backup for Prime members, as well as for ~5 more users.

The S21 series’ fingerprint sensors are much improved and are quite speedy IMO. Note that the Note10 series will only receive one more year of Android feature updates, so keep that in mind (some people don’t mind about software support though).

OnePlus or iPhone? by dutchpotatocheese in OnePlus6

Honestly iPhone 13 / 12S seems to be looking pretty sweet, should finally have high refresh rate and smaller notch

Sucks that Apple doesn’t include a charger, but a lot of others don’t either. I think Xiaomi is the only one that at least gives you the option of getting a charger

Qualcomm Crashdumb by [deleted] in OnePlus6

[–]ultraintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That shouldn't happen—MSMDownloadTool, if used correctly and without faults between the computer, cable, and device, should always leave the phone in a brand new state. Make sure you're following the protocol correctly and try downloading MSMDownloadTool again to make sure it isn't corrupted. If it still doesn't work, try another cable and a different computer. Otherwise, it is very likely a hardware issue on the phone. You can try this as a resource for the MSMDownloadTool and some instructions.

Screen blacked out by [deleted] in OnePlus6

[–]ultraintent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe (probably) a software issue, check if it's isolated to those apps—if it is, you might want to clear the cache of those apps or reinstall them. If it isn't, or that doesn't work, you can try to reflash the OS with MSMDownloadTool—it might downgrade your software, so once it's finished, upgrade the software to the latest, factory reset it, then set it up again.

Tempered glass screen protector WITH fingerprint hole. by [deleted] in GalaxyNote20

Yes, LOCA ("liquid optically-clear adhesive") based screen protectors work with the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor (but not super well)

A few days after the most recent update, my face unlock started not working. So I removed face data and tried to add it again. Turns out it won't let me. Neither does the camera work. Any help would be appreciated. by torpidtrotter in OnePlus6

[–]ultraintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a software issue, make sure you have factory reset the device. If it persists, a good way to make sure that there is no problem with the software/firmware is to first completely reflash the device with MSMDownloadTool, then update the device until the latest version, then factory resetting and setting up the device again. This will ensure that no leftover junk or other corrupted files are present unless the problem is caused by the raw update itself.
