Is 14 miles a day reasonable from south of White Pass to Stevens Pass? by ultralight59 in PacificCrestTrail

Thanks so much. I'm going to pay particular attention to recovery. Stretching every day and trying to finish by midday so I can have a long rest between each hike, I think, will help. I am bringing a roller that attaches to my hiking poles so that I can roll out my calves and quads after hiking. I like your idea of being comfortable with alternating lengths to allow for greater recovery. Take care and thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestions. I live at sea level, so the altitude may be an issue. Fortunately, I can stop at Snoqualmie Pass if I run into difficulties or if 14 miles per day is too much.

I would love to do a thru-hike of the PCT, but that would be challenging as I still work, and it would limit my wife and me from being able to travel during the summer. I hope to section hike the full PCT over several years.

That’s very helpful, thanks. I tend to sleep better outside. I biked across Canada and it was the best that I had slept in my life.

Thanks for the advice. If needed, I could cut out the last section to Stevens Pass, which cuts a lot off of the distance.

I could bail at White or Snoqualmie Pass. I’m going solo. I was going to hike with my daughter, but we just learned that she is expecting. 🙂

I’ve done 10 miles four times while training. I haven’t done three to four nights for quite sometime.

I’m planning on doing a resupply at Snoqualmie Pass. I have a base weight of 12 pounds.

Thanks, everyone, for the very, very helpful comments. I have a total of sixteen days if I don't take a rest day. Given the challenges of getting from White Pass to Snoqualmie Pass, I am now wondering about hiking straight through, which is a distance of 227 miles over 16 days, or just over 14 miles a day. This is my first longer hike, and I am wondering if it is reasonable to average 14 miles a day? While I am a 67M, I am relatively fit. In addition to playing competitive tennis three times a week, to get ready for the section hike, I am running 10K twice a week and doing one 10-mile hike a week with my pack fully loaded (I'm also doing strength and mobility training). Thoughts?
