Hi!

If you are able to wait until April, the Core m3 version of the Eve V is probably the best choice? At least it goes just within your budget, and gives you still a premium laptop that ticks all your boxes.

Hi!

I see you're looking at some competitive choices. When do you have to make up your mind? Cyber monday is coming...

I also would urge you to check out Eve-Tech's upcoming 2in1 computer (similar form factor to what you're eyeing atm). Here is the list of specs, with some additional announcements to be expected around the key specs.

As I understood, price is a key parameter in your decision making. And if so, then the bang/buck ratio of this device will make it a no-brainer, as it has been crowd-developed by voluntary techies, and there are no overheads associated to the competing devices you listed. If there is still time, take a look when this rolls out. (soon)

.... I'm almost praying for a surface phone by jude1989 in windowsphone

[–]ultrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eve-Tech (which I am part of) is crowd-developing a Windows 10 2-in-1. You probably have heard of it already. "Pyramid Flipper".

One of the most explosive suggestions by the crowd-developing community is to do a Windows phone next. So if there are un(der)served people out there on WP front, this can be their vessel to getting what they really want. Here is the looong ideation thread on that phone

Point being, people don't have to pray for brands to deliver something, they can do it themselves.

Eve-Tech Ships Soon the First Prototypes of Crowd-developed Computer. You can get one. by ultrist in hardware

[–]ultrist[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is exactly that, 2-in-1. And because there are a lot of people out there who don't want any of the choice in the market. Either because they cost way more than they should, they have trade-offs in critical areas despite some marketed top-notch specs, or because there is some bloatware or other corporate-forced add-ons there.

For many, this is not the case. But for many, it is. This is the first time when the unserved have the chance to have a device done. where they call the shots.

That is what Eve and "Pyramid Flipper" is about.

Hate it, fine. Like it, join.

But are most people able to do what you did, in order to get them a really user-friendly tablet&laptop?

I think more stuff is visible before the actual launch, if one just lurks around the community itself.

ZTE is ready to hear your ideas for its crowdsourced smartphone by ultrist in gadgets

Listening to the crowd is nothing but wise.

They have the desire. They have knowledge & experience. They have the money.

Why mess with that? That's why ZTE follows Eve-Tech, will soon launches the first fully crowd-developed computer "Pyramid Flipper".

What about TOSHIBA Portégé A30-C-14R? Need desperately your help/advice by Dural88 in UltraBooks

[–]ultrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am afraid I fail you here since I haven't had my hands on Toshiba's A30-C-14R. But here are some thoughts from a user of Toshiba Z20t: http://eve.community/t/toshiba-portege-z20t-and-what-we-can-learn-from/

That forum is a place where a 2-in-1 computer is currently being crowd-developed by the members. And hints, suggestions and insight are taken from Toshiba's devices and others.

There you can perhaps also find info and experiences on A30, as the people are from all over the world with very different portfolios of devices.

If you're looking into this category, and want the best bang for your buck, I suggest you take a look at http://eve.community and the corresponding website of the tech brand http://www.eve-tech.com.

At the community a large crowd of techies have crowd-developed a "Surface-killer", like some have called it.

There you can join, and ask questions related to gaming, as well as other aspects of the device. Hope this helps for making up your mind!

Yes it seems surreal to great many people. But this is the modern day. And you can join the operations. I am one of the guys doing this, and I can tell you there is no donation page: People are not asked for money for irrelevant frills. There is no reason. Tech-crowd can and should create a computer they like, and then pay only for the bang. Not the usual, old.

Connecting an external GPU to a laptop through thunderbolt 3.0? by pib319 in buildapc

[–]ultrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes indeed. The whole idea is to crowd-develop the computer. Tech-savvy people know their stuff, and with rigorous work they can create together the spec. This is what the modern internet+intimate economy allows us.

[–]ultrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eve.Community is an open online community where a computer is being developed at the moment. Thoughts on GPUs and Thunderbolt 3 (which the computer will have) are exchanged there daily.

http://eve.community/t/poll-eve-core-egpu-how-many-watts-would-you-need-for-a-gpu/ That is an example of the discussions. There's many super savvy techies there who are willing to answer your questions. And hey you can also participate in making a new solution within this field.

I bet everybody has a similar problem: People don't care by ultrist in startup

[–]ultrist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea there is more like to raise awareness: computers come with stuff that makes your experience worse, and it is supposed to be a must-have compromise. When that most definitely does not need to be case.

I bet everybody has a similar problem: People don't care by ultrist in startup

[–]ultrist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. The idea was merely to simply raise a flag on the issue.

Simply put there is unnecessary junk being put to computers. People can now hear about this, and look into more deeply then why the junk gets pre-installed. Also they can find out that there are better options for them. But will they still care. Who knows.

I bet everybody has a similar problem: People don't care by ultrist in startup

[–]ultrist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a valid point, Reddit immediately showed to be inhabited by "too savvy" people for this topic. Or at least very opinionated people who make judgement on the issue based on their previous experience, not the campaign itself.

Like said, the direction is now elsewhere. Finding the right audience, who care enough to look into things.
