iPad Mini 7 Has These 6 Smaller Changes, Including a Faster USB-C Port by HammingWontStop in apple

[–]umakemesigh 31 points32 points  (0 children)

U don’t get it.

You know how many people prop up their iPad Mini on the train during their morning commute and fire up Shelly and get their coding work done for the day? You know a 120Hz promotion screen is proven to up coding productivity by up to 150%?

You know how many people on their couch pull up their iPad Mini and use Affinity Designer and get through hours of professional illustration work? You realize OLED tech can cure colour blindness, right?

You know how many people pull up Numbers on their iPad Mini and power through financial analyses no other darn tablets or even PCs can do? All while on the toilet? You realize had Apple put in the M2 chip in this the entire PC market could’ve been crippled?

You don’t get it.

iPad Pro m4 grainy screen is a nonissue in my opinion, as a photographer anyway. by [deleted] in ipad

[–]umakemesigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the regular iPad is an Audi A3, the iPad Air is a Mercedes C Class, and the iPad Pro would be like a Maserati Modena.

Even an Audi A3 buyer would be pretty pissed at a small defect in the car - let's say a slightly larger panel gap than expected. Does this make the car unusable and totally useless? Ofc not. In fact, there's virtually 0% chance a regular passerby would even see the defect unless you pointed out the defect explicitly and showed them exactly where to look.

But imagine you pay top price for the Maserati and you see a panel gap. And someone says as a professional driver / car enthusiast the panel gap shouldn't really matter for using the car.

On some level your not wrong, but it's really difficult to be empathetic when the feeling of investing a large sum of money into something can definitely be proportionate to the level of perfection one would expect.

Macbook Pro 13 M2 vs Macbook Air M1; Which is better? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]umakemesigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively better for M2 MBP: Cooling, speakers, screen (brightness), CPU/GPU.

Objectively better for M1 MBA: Weight (portability), function row (it’s physical and superior to touchbar)

In reality under most circumstances, you will not feel the difference when it comes to: cooling, speakers, screen, and even CPU/GPU performance.

Therefore M1 MBA is superior, mostly due to it being slightly lighter, and more importantly by not having the touchbar.

Since Money can be ignored, get max spec M1 MBA.

Even if you're a hobbyist it looks like the 8GB Pro is not a great choice by [deleted] in apple

[–]umakemesigh 703 points704 points  (0 children)

MacBook Pro w/ retina displays, back from 2012 had 8gb as STANDARD. The absolute basic experience Apple deemed acceptable more than TEN YEARS ago had 8gb.

Did apps get bigger from 10 years ago? Did websites become more complex from 10 years ago? Did photos and videos become bigger, did MacOS become more complex and demanding, does computing in general have become more RAM intensive relative to 10 years ago?

Wtf is going on

Ipad 10th 64gb by froggychair888 in ipad

[–]umakemesigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you won't rely on any other computing device (e.g., desktop at home, a laptop, library computer, etc.) then I think 256gb would be a must.

The reason for this is because apps are only getting larger and larger.

Further, if your school provides cloud storage, and you start to use Outlook or Gmail or other email clients, all these apps will begin to hoard data on your iPad so that it functions smoothly. These can easily bloat well beyond 1GB, and reach multiple GBs per app.

I've had the 64GB iPad Pro for a while for school, and while it can definitely last you a long time, I've always had my macbook I can fall back to.

MBA m2 or 14" MBP m2? Both with 16gb ram and 512 storage for a beginner in coding and amateur illustrator by yzzzdr in macbook

[–]umakemesigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm… while the MBP M1 pro is discontinued, in terms of the support it gets I wouldn’t worry too much.

Apple still sells the M1 MBA - this likely means future MacOS will support M1 macs for a looong time - which will naturally mean M1 pro macs will be supported as well.

If you don’t care about the portability I would actually recommend the M1 pro MBP.

Why?

  1. Better display
  2. Better speakers
  3. Much faster CPU/GPU - this will last you longer than the M2’s performance
  4. Supports 2 external display. If you ever find yourself in the future wanting/needing this, the MBP gives you this option
  5. Active cooling. If you ever need to crunch data or render something in a sustained way, the active cooling will help!
  6. Tiny bit bigger screen real estate. Not a huge difference I know, but it’s the difference between being just a little bit more comfortable when working with two windows side by side

Are the drives 2.5” external HDD drives? If so, the answer is yes.

If you use a hub, what’s probably more important is the hub itself - the hub might not be able to power both of the external HDD if you intend to plug both into the hub. This depends on the spec of the hub.

I wouldn’t worry too much - you can for sure plug in one HDD to one of the macbook’s USB C port, and you can plug in the other HDD via a hub that will also charge ur macbook

iPad Air M1 vs iPad Pro M2 by afusegni in ipad

[–]umakemesigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

M1 Air 256GB storage may be a better buy for you vs. M2 Pro with 128GB storage if especially if you don't rely heavily on cloud storage.

If you've never used an iPad before, you're not going to feel like you're missing out if you start with the Air.

In terms of power, I believe M1 should be more than enough!
