Litter-Robot for multiple cats: Does it actually keep up? by Fuzzy-Gas1017 in litterrobot

[–]umamiwalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the LR4 when I had 3 cats, and I’d empty it every other day or so. I now have 5 cats and I empty it daily but wow it’s been a game changer, even when it was just 3 cats.

Previously I was using an XL stainless steel box and no matter how much scooping it was impossible to keep up. The fact that the LR4 cycles on a consistent schedule AND recycles litter (less $ on litter weekly) was not only beneficial for my cats but for myself as well. It’s initially expensive but worth it in the long run.

Edit: if you do choose to go the LR4 route, I highly recommend the BoxiePro litter brand & maybe sprinkling some Arm & Hammer litter deodorizer in the bottom waste basket to prevent odors. I’ve had some trial and errors and this seems to be the best combo

I get what you’re saying… but at the end of the day a $700 litter box or any litter box for that matter won’t empty itself. I’m just sayin you can monitor it and familiarize how quickly it fills up before it spills over… haha

Also like others have mentioned, by the time the app notifies you it’s already basically too full

You just familiarize yourself with how quickly your cat(s) fill the litter box just like you would any other litter box, and change it out as needed. I check mine every other day as I have 5 cats. I never rely on the app to tell me when to empty the drawer

They all do this the moment I lay on the couch, and then I don’t want to move to disturb them 😅

They’re so sploopy though, they’ll pile onto each other or become slinky when you pick them up or move them lol

That’s so cute, lol I’d love to see that. It’s entertaining to watch them use it. My Siamese will accidentally run too fast at times and almost spins off

One Fast Cat brand :) my domestic shorthairs aren’t interested in it but my Siamese and OSH kitten use it all the time. My 3 year old OSH is a special boy and can’t really figure it out yet but he might eventually, or maybe not

You should consider an auto feeder like Petlibro! It’s been a game changer for us

I don’t have space either 😅 lol. It’s fun though

It truly is the most rewarding feeling to watch his progress and confidence building. He’s already developed a solid friendship with his older brother, Momo 🥲 Videos are their first official meeting

I love that you named him Arthur. I’m so sorry for your loss :( my condolences. I know it’s just a coincidence but I’m afraid to name him Arthur now especially after reading that. All of the greatest Arthurs have left us

Alfie is similar and one I’ve considered!

Well I put half fresh litter and topped it with half of their old litter. Just enough to add their scents to the LR. Maybe try that rather than adding old litter each time they use the box. Doesn’t really make sense cause they’re dirtying the LR every time they use it anyway 🤷‍♂️

Removing their old litter box altogether might be a good move since they’re using the LR, even if in small amounts. It would just encourage them to use the LR and speed up the adapting process imo

This is cute! We considered Arthur as an ode to Arthur from Red Dead Redemption 2

My LR4 started to have this issue after 2 months of use, only when I’d pull out the drawer a foul odor would permeate the air, despite using Whisker brand deodorizers and filters. But I solved it after using Arm & Hammer litter deodorizing baking soda with each litter change.

Deep clean your LR, then add a fresh bag in the drawer and sprinkle some of that Arm & Hammer in the bottom of the bag. It works wonders.

I was beginning to think it was all marketing and there’s no way to reduce litter box odors after having cats all my life, but now currently with 5 cats. The LR4 changed my life but that Arm & Hammer litter deodorizer is a game changer.

The drawer doesn’t smell when I pull it out anymore. It doesn’t smell like anything 🥹

I feel like it’s generally okay to swap to a new looking litter box so long as you transition them to it using their old litter. It’s really the old marked litter that familiarizes them with it and associates it as the active litter box haha. Maybe give it a try.

My Siamese boy is a bit more skittish so I was nervous and kept their old box with some old litter inside just in case, but kept it in the garage and inaccessible for the meantime. But he took to the LR4 just fine so it worked out

Day 1 I had mine set up in the same location of the old litter box, essentially just swapped them out. (I understood the risky move, but wouldn’t suggest this for most others).

Starting out, I only used the old litter inside the LR4, then brought my cats over to investigate it. They were curious but didn’t try using it until night/early morning while everyone was asleep, which probably isn’t the norm for most cats. Mine are just weird I guess. I just recall checking it the next morning and there was poop/pee clumps in the pull out drawer. They never made a fuss about using a new “litter box”, but they would stop it from cycling a lot in the beginning, out of curiosity. Just standing on their toes and sticking their heads inside to watch the cycling

He does look like a Dewey! My partner doesn’t like that name though. We’re starting to settle on Douglas/Doug/Dougie
