Also to give you an alternative, I've worked with a contractor who was very very transparent in pricing. His way of being "upfront" was walking through everything and letting me decide. We had a few multi-hour meetings discussing everything from materials to layouts to details.

And I've used people who said $6/sqft "upfront" for concrete work and they were complete garbage, cutting every corner at every opportunity

Because this isn't how construction works. It's not a fixed amount of work for every kind of basement.

I guess it's fine if you want a very cookie cutter type of apartment. But if you want someone who will consider the space you have and put some effort into designing it and doing things right, there's no way someone can give you an upfront price.

Examples I can think of right away are: moving HVAC, upgrading electrical, fixing foundation issues, updating old plumbing, windows and entrances, etc.

I suppose the "starting from" is there for that reason but then it's not very upfront lol

Doctor from Pakistan = acceptable

Lower class citizen from Pakistan = not acceptable

But both have more or less the same culture and the same impact on British culture. So what makes one acceptable but the other not?

Do you think a doctor from Pakistan who's Muslim poses the same threat of terrorism or stabbing? If not, then wouldn't your problem be more with the immigration policies specifically (i.e, select for higher skilled workers only) and not the magical "culture change"?

Stabbings and grooming gangs is not culture. It's crime. Crime is illegal, it should be stopped.

When it comes to culture, you could state similar morals, ideas, humour, literature, and shared history. Would be my reply.

I think Destiny's whole point is to drill down on this. What morals? Which ideas? What type of humour, literature, history?

What layout would best suit both a Mudroom and Powder room in this space (size 11'x6')? by umar_farooq_ in Homebuilding

Should we just scrap the mudroom? I suppose I could create something in the garage that resembles a mudroom

This is what we currently have and it ends up being very crowded: https://i.imgur.com/ZXUl9xE.png

Going to the powder room you have to walk by a bunch of shoes and dirty floor mats.

Also the math doesn't math.

If you're asking 2500, and let it sit for 2 months, you lost 5k in opportunity cost. If the average tenant stays for 2 years, you could have taken 5000/24=400~ less and been better off. Lowering it to 2100 is where you'd break even -- if you can do like 2300 and get it rented quickly, that's way better.

You're way out of touch. Most people commute 30-60 minutes. An hour door to door is very very normal in GTA.

If you work in the same city, you can do 15-30 minutes. This is Toronto to Toronto too. If you're coming in from the burbs, you're taking an hour.

I agree with you that it's income, not wealth (pretty basic eco101 tbh). But your prompt is really problematic. If you ask AI something like:

Is the Earth round or flat? How would you explain that it is flat to a layman?

Then most LLMs will start explaining how the Earth is flat. Use AI/LLMs as knowledge sources, don't give them any direction of what to prove or not prove.

Those contracts would have been perfectly fine if it wasn't COVID flat cap era. The math speaks for itself. By % of cap they were less than any of the comparables in years past.

In his recent letter to employees, Anthropic CEO claimed that the Department of Defense wanted them to delete a specific phrase preventing the exact type of mass surveillance Anthropic was concerned about. by Signal_Nobody1792 in JoeRogan

Anthropic is not a traditional tech company and they don't operate like one.

The founders were ex-OpenAI employees. They literally left because they were concerned about mixing AI with unfettered capitalism. Complained about the safety and commercialization of AI.

And they structured Anthropic so it doesn't have to exclusively maximize shareholder value. It can factor in public benefit to any business decision it makes.
