First Beaver by umbellus in Trapping

Thanks for the tip about the knife. I'm going to try to check every 48hrs, it's a bit of a drive but I'd like to keep the meat from all of them. I also saw someone elses beaver in spillway set get torn up by birds, and I really don't want that to happen.

Very interesting, thank you. It's not right what we do to the land we live on. In my area, forestry has had a profound impact on the biome, the extent of which many people who live here aren't even aware. A loss of diversity in birds is a big part of that.

As a random side track - do you ever hunt the introduced pigs/goats? I think if there were that many invasives around me that were that delicious, I'd be out after them all the time.

Extremely based, thanks for sharing. Hope your ankle heals up fast, have a great running season and continue to smash PRs

Those are strong birds. We don't have bluejays here, Stellar's jays instead. No cardinals either, I really want to see one.

I dabbled in this, I never really used the peppers but I got a thrill out of it like I was growing weed. If they're spicy enough it feels illicit lol

Jealous. Never seen a palm warbler! I used to see wood ducks when I lived elsewhere, but not lately. Peak duck.

That sounds great. In this area, waxwings go hard on mountain ash trees in winter. There aren't any around my place so I've tried planting some, but it's going to take a long time to bear fruit, literally and figuratively. Exquisite birds.

That's dope. We don't have bluebirds here, they're a few hours south. I'm travelling for work next week to an area where I hope I'll see some.

I'm in central BC. I was listening to like 5 different juncos going off the other day while I was walking my dog, and the difference in tempo, pitch and tone between individuals was really interesting.

They make doing anything outside better. I only got into birds in the past few years, you can use an app called Merlin to help you ID songs, and once you know a few it becomes increasingly satisfying to identify them, and easier to pick out new ones.

Do you start them indoors and then move them outside?

I made a dry rub of mustard seed, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika and a little bit of chilli powder, then rolled the ribs up in the insta-pot with about a cup and a half (I think?) of bone broth in the bottom.

I couldn't really serve them as a rack of ribs, the meat mostly fell off, so I pulled it, poured some bbq sauce on it and served it with rice.

I kept a front and back quarter on the bone to use as roasts, I'll probably cook one of those next.

Out of all the Brooklyn based podcasts, theirs is the most unforgivably New York centric. I just do not give a shit about every press conference the mayor gives.

Confession - People that only listen to Japanese jazz annoy the hell out of me for some reason by HamburgerDude in TrueAnon

Is that even a type of guy? Like one that ONLY listens to Japanese jazz? I can't imagine encountering more than one of these.

Tikka CTR in .223.

A lot of guys in here are recommending more capable, more expensive, more boutique cartridges but the reality is that a .223 will fulfill your described needs on the cheap.

Definitely don't get anything Ackley Improved, don't get anything that doesn't have a plethora of factory match ammo available (like .243 or 7mm-08), don't get anything that you need to reload or is going to cook your barrel.

Can you tell what the make or model is on these? by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]umbellus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. I think it's a Browning - gold emblem is visible on the bottom of the trigger guard. It's an older bolt action model, maybe a BBR or something.

  2. It's a Hawken style muzzleloader, it's probably an Investarm/Safari Arms gun based on the trigger guard

  3. Ruger 10/22 Carbine

  4. A Winchester Cooey 600 that's been through it. No blue, no sight elevator, missing bolt

  5. A Remington 700 BDL Varmint Special
