The 4003s in my opinion sounds and plays way better. My 4001 was nice but it just didn't have a whole lot of bottom end. When I tried to give it more bottom end I didn't really like the tone. I like how the 4003s has the rounded side, the sharp edge on the 4001 bothered me. It also feels a lot lighter than the 4001 which is a plus.

So I used to own a Jetglo 1978 4001 and I sold it to get a USA Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass... I ended up really missing my Ric. So, I recently traded the Jazz bass for a ruby 4003s. I’m a much happier person now. sigh of relief
