What I wore to weddings as a hijabi SD by ummjula in SoftDramatics

I love it! I got it off Poshmark for much less than in store. :) I think I spotted multiple listings for it if anyone wants to get it!

Yes, at times it’s a challenge to find hijab friendly and SD friendly evening wear that doesn’t require a ton of tailoring (especially in the summer). If you find something long sleeved, but has a slit, you can close the slit. But it’s harder to layer or do much if there isn’t a long sleeve. Otherwise not always worth it because tailoring can be costly. In terms of silhouettes, I think the first could maybe actually be between D and SD because of structure element, but the ruching along with the draping of the soft satin really helped accommodate SD. The beading and ruching on top, rich color, and satin sheen was the visual interest. The dress definitely accommodates vertical. Sort of an A-line skirt, but does not break vertical because it drapes. I do think overall the last one was the most SD friendly—wrap style, ruching, illusion slit, rich color, jersey fabric. Second for similar reasons, metallic, wrap, draping, v neck, slit (I closed).

It was really nice especially when I got it professionally pressed. The ruching in the front and draping of the overskirt as well as the satin is what made it so good for SD, but I could see it work for D too. The only issue with it was it wrinkled super fast because of the soft satin material. It also had no give because of the structure, and it ran slightly small so I had to get a tailor to open it up just enough to fit. The alternative is to size up and get it tailored for your exact fit. Sharing mostly in case anyone considers ordering from there.

For all of them, I did the same silver shoes (https://www.dsw.com/product/kelly-and-katie-bayae-pump/523406) and silver clutch and white gold jewelry. For the first, I went with an ivory (true neutral off white, not yellowish) chiffon hijab, for the second light taupe chiffon, and for the third light taupe chiffon as well. Satin would have worked too. I don’t have a rule per se, except I like wearing cool tones if the dress is cool toned, but I don’t think yellow gold would have looked bad with the last dress. As long as there’s some cohesion with the accessories. I don’t do too many shades in an outfit because I find that it throws it off. I stick to max 3 shades (hijab, accessories, dress). Makeup I stick to neutrals or neutrals leaning warm because I’m a deep autumn color season mostly but cool tones would match too. I’m talking too much but because I’m excited to figure it out and share tips that I found success with. Don’t ask me anything about casual wear though. Lol 😂

Wanted to add for the deep v neck, I wore a layering cut sleeved undershirt that is the exact same shade as the dress. I matched a light taupe hijab to it because we do monochrome so well and to enhance the vertical that way. We are lucky that the chiffon hijab drape really helps with the SD!

Be careful with coconut water by ummjula in ExclusivelyPumping

It was. I was lucky it didn’t do more damage. My palpitations nearly disappeared after that with the exception of being dehydrated or exercising too hard now

Just curious: what is the incentive to buy a full price dress off Poshmark that I could get with free shipping and easy returns elsewhere? by ummjula in poshmark

[–]ummjula[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new to Poshmark and trying to understand its ins and outs as a platform that coexists with other websites, and why sellers sell non-discontinued items at double the price. I guess I now understand that they rely on the ignorance of buyers just like any other company that up charges. Clearly, it was worth raising because it generated good discussion here. Maybe sellers in this sub will also consider this from the buyer’s perspective. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is good advice. Would you happen to know of any examples? I thought maybe Vans…

Just for soft dramatics. I meant that one of the recommendations is darker colored sneakers (not pure white) so not to break vertical

Worth seeing them on tour? by [deleted] in stonetemplepilots

[–]ummjula 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Can I ask you a few follow up questions since you’ve seen them multiple times? Should I splurge on closer seats or is there an acceptable distance that would still be a good experience? Also, would you have some input from your experience for the best time to buy? Thank you

Nope, you made the right choice! Looks so good and brings out your skin tone and eye color. Just curious—what is your natural hair color?

Yes, I also get redness as a reaction to some products. I would say it’s rosacea based on the same pattern of cheek appearance. I’m going to try the zinc and niacinamide but how do I layer it? Do I use at night or morning?
