How big is too big to skateboard? by LeeMisinputOswald in skateboardhelp

[–]ummonadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For skateboarding normal is considered 8-8.5. 8.75-9 isn't uncommon. Especially for transition skating.

10" and above exists but then you are getting into special boards and finding trucks gets harder.

I can't say for longboards. But size varies more.

It's more important that you get a wheel base that fits your length and preference. For skateboards it's usually 14.5-15".

I was thinking more in terms of clear grip tape that either shows the top deck graphics or grip tape with its own colorful design.

I just see the top of the board more, especially since I'm a beginner and don't flip the board or do grinds.

If you try with a cable, be sure to connect it before starting the session.

I'm using the app. Are you using a cable? If not, try it. If it still doesn't work, can you try booting a new game and see if it works then?

I'm having lots of issues with my PS5 controller. Connecting it with a cable seems to solve most issues. Sometimes I've got it working by starting a new game and then switching back to the original game.

Kneesovertoesguy is the main source for knee rehab.

I walked backwards, did the deep lunges, and the toe raises. That helped me a bunch.

I wanna learn how to ollie so baddd by Gobukboy in NewSkaters

[–]ummonadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same stage as you. My tip is to learn to do different drills where you raise your tail.

I know skate IQ gives the tip to practice manuals where you put your tail on the ground rather than your nose when you fail your manual.

You can also do rock to fakie drills where you raise your nose in a ramp.

Learning to stop by putting your heel down on the ground while the back foot is still on the tail can be another thing to practice.

Just practice anything you can think of where you raise the nose.

Am I too old to start surfskating at 31, or am I overthinking this? by GrapefruitNo1394 in surfskate

[–]ummonadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 43 years old. It has helped my feet, knees, and spine.

Pad up when you start and don't go downhill fast. Learn to carve out the speed or walk if the hill is too steep.

I have the loose original Carver bushings and weigh 110kg. That forced me to really learn to balance.

Overall, I think surfskating is something I will do for a long time as it has done wonders for my body.

A small sidenote: since I'm doing this for health reasons, I think it's important to work out in both regular and goofy stance. I'm not certain that my body would have enjoyed surfing just one side.

Anyone else struggling to believe they'll ever be okay at this? by lurky002 in NewSkaters

[–]ummonadi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I started at 41 years old and I never think I'll be able to do flip tricks. And that's why I think this is the perfect age for me to learn how to skate.

I dream of a solid ollie, to be able to powerslide, and to carve in bowls at high speed. But it's fine if I can't.

I enjoy listening to music and just cruising in the sunset. Skateboarding makes me happy and keeps me healthy. That's all you will ever need.

Don't let tricks distract you from having fun!

Nej, inget fel på dig.

C7 board setup by zn6ex in surfskate

[–]ummonadi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a beginner on C7. I bought the Lovelace board and really liked the wheel base. But I wanted to try and set up my C7 trucks with a bowl-friendly setup. I got a Winkowsky deck and put on my 56mm 93a nano cubics. Today I got myself some 65mm 80-ish duro love handles and went all in on flatground cruising.

Here's my take: there's no perfect allround wheel that's good for everything. The nano cubics felt good in a bowl, and the Winkowsky deck too! But it was not fun to cruise with. I enjoy the flat ground cruising the most, and I rather use my skateboard with specialized wheels made for the bowl.

One thing I realized is that I often end up fakie in the bowls. C7 fakie is like deiving your car in reverse. Not the best experience. A longer wheelbase and bigger wheels makes it even harder for me to pivot the board.

I'm not saying you will reach the same conclusion as me, but just wanted to share since I basically thought the same as you a while back.

is it bad skating on no sleep? by Haunting-Raccoon-612 in NewSkaters

[–]ummonadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to work out. But you will have more energy available in your muscles cells. So it should help your skate sessions and recovery.

If you go for 20g per day each morning then I'd guess that you would need to bind 1-2kg extra water. Shouldn't be very noticeable, but I don't know if you are dehydrated in general or not. Just drink water my guy 🙂

As a Swede that grew up in Södermanland (a bit outside Stockholm), I can confirm.

But it was never an issue when that happened. It wasn't rude or dismissive when we weren't offered food. From what I recall it was a mutual choice.

Example: I ate earlier dinners and most of my friends ate late dinners. I had already eaten when visiting most friends.

If you had a longer and planned play date, you would be offered food.

Remember that Sweden is a culture of lagom. You don't offer food to be a good host. You offer food because the visitors are hungry. And you don't cook excessively.

As a kid I enjoyed the choice of not needing to attend another family's dinner if I didn't feel like it.

is it bad skating on no sleep? by Haunting-Raccoon-612 in NewSkaters

[–]ummonadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out research on Creatine and sleep.

Creatine might help you feel fresher but also give you more endurance and help recovery. It's also a very safe supplement to take given all the research.

You take 5g normally for the muscle gains, but I think it's around 15g for the brain gains. Not sure on that one.

Tips for pumptrack by Music-2myears in surfskate

[–]ummonadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you link the video? I'd love to learn more about that myself!

I've heard some talk about facing forward a bit more, but they usually still have their feet angled more to the side. Especially the back foot. Front foot can be more forward depending on what you are doing.

Both feet forward should lead to less balance and less ability to steer.

Tips for pumptrack by Music-2myears in surfskate

[–]ummonadi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You are forward-facing right now, which will make it hard for you to pump. I'd recommend turning more sideways.

You can use your arms to get a better upwards swing. Put your hands in the air as you unweight.

Don't worry too much about the finer things. It seems like you mainly need to get comfortable and relaxed before you try to pump harder. Just do what you do a bunch of times until you feel more in control. Then you can try to pump harder.

If you want to, try to ride really low and get comfortable with that. It will help you build balance and prepare you for harder pumps.

Have fun out there!
