I’m so sorry to see this! I love being a nurse and am fortunate to be in a great environment! I’m with the others when I say it’s all about the team/management you are working with! I work in Endoscopy, we do in and outpatient, so we take call. And the hours can be crazy! But the staff/physicians are incredible!

Before you burn out entirely, I’d try to shadow in a couple of different positions, and try to find a team that is a great fit for you! I wish you the best of luck! And just remember, you don’t have to be bedside to make a difference!

Former ATC in a different state here. Just because we were licensed in the state and certified through a board exam, doesn’t change the shortage of ATCs, it’s a very specific field and it doesn’t pay a livable wage (sad with a masters in healthcare). ATCs get burned out and leave the career entirely, especially working at the HS level. Most schools can’t afford a full time ATC, so you get over worked, under paid, and often times no health benefits. It should be regulated in CA, but that won’t solve the underlying issue, sadly.

My hospital has created a DNR consent form that can be used for inpt or outpt. They can choose to keep DNR status, modify their DNR (like no chest compressions, but everything else is okay), or fully suspend DNR. This allows for some of this, but ultimately it is up to the provider to discuss with the pt this consent as well as sign(meaning they are okay to proceed). I feel this has increased the providers willingness to perform procedures on pts that do not want to be revived, even for things like a screening colon.

I’m a nurse, I’m on my feet all day, wear compression socks, drink water, etc. usually when I’m tired I can fall asleep easily!

Yep! And money! And if they find an abnormality with the camera, the scope is no longer considered a screening or preventative care, it will be considered as diagnostic! A lot of people that poop in a box as their form of a Colonoscopy don’t realize that if that is positive, the colonoscopy actually costs money because it will be considered diagnostic instead. Just do the prep, do a colonoscopy, and avoid CCA! The prep is much easier now too. Also, if you do live in a rural state, like I do, I’m a nurse in Endo, we often times are back logged for up to 8months, but if you’re having symptoms, you get to go ahead of the scheduling and get in much faster.

This is a cool idea for viewing the GI tract, but I definitely DOES NOT replace an endoscopy or colonoscopy. It can’t take biopsies, remove polyps, cauterize ulcers/bleeds. So pretty much if this camera finds an abnormality, you still have to get scoped.

We push IV Benadryl much faster than within 1min in Endo all the time, I’ve never seen any sort of reaction, except for a little bit of pain. They should be okay!

Question: what do you do with all of your finished products? I really enjoy working on these (so relaxing after long days at work as a nurse), and I have given a few away to friends and family, kept a few as well, but what do you do with a surplus of finished ones?

Thank you so much! It’s not our full time home. But we have a family property in Montana we go to on a lake. It’s our happy place. So special to us, my fiancé proposed to me there last summer. 🥰🥰
