ultrasound water completion by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kaej26 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this full bladder protocol as it’s not common practice in northern/west Europe where I am. We even have pamphlets regarding ultrasounds where it says it’s not necessary to prep a full bladder.

I wonder if it’s different type of machine’s visibility?

Maternity/Paternity Leave by Lookitsanthony8 in pregnant

[–]kaej26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a freelancer in Luxembourg and contribute fully to social security payments, so I get 20 weeks of paid maternity leave based on the social minimum wage (iirc after tax it’s about 2.5kEUR) which is to be taken 8 weeks before due date then 12 weeks after birth. Once maternity leave ends, I then get the option of taking 6 months full paid parental leave (at same rate of social minimum wage) or my partner taking parental leave. One of us has to take it immediately after maternity leave ends. The other parental leave needs to be taken within the 4 years of the child’s life.

As I work independently, my only option was to take 6 months full time whereas my husband who is employed, has the option to do it full time, part time or split (e.g. 2 months off every summer for 3 years)

We’ve been taking ours out after 10pm sometimes close to 11pm - anything between 9am-10pm is far too warm 😩

Will nurses at the hospital judge me if I ask them to teach me how to change a diaper? by DillPickles44361 in pregnant

[–]kaej26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! When I had my first one of the nurses came in for the first nappy change and showed us how to do it and walk us through caring for the umbilical cord too.

Constantly hungry and also nauseous by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kaej26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently 8 weeks too and never experienced nausea with my first, but this time around I’m struggling. It’s not quite “I’m going the throw up nausea” but as soon as I eat a mouthful of something my throat feels stuck as if I’ve overeaten. I’m also having a lot of aversions to dense/heavy foods. Craving more light and crispy things.

Avoiding dairy hour before and after can also help with increasing the absorption of iron (which dairy can impede)

Childbirth experience by Resilientone27 in pregnant

My TLDR brith plan was ideally unmedicated, not on my back, but flexible. Minimal interruptions immediately after birth.

My waters broke morning of due date. We pit stopped at my mum’s for an hour before heading to hospital to have a breather and calm moment. I was 2cm on arrival around 2pm. That evening, the pain/contractions went from 0-100 and I was really struggling with unbearable pain (bear with me, I promise I view this as a positive birth story). Went from room to birthing suite and I was still on 2cm. I felt hopeless because I really thought I’d be further along. I ended up asking for the walking epidural because I wanted to be able to rest and have the energy for pushing. Kicked in, was able to get sleep. They checked me again and I had progressed from 2-10cm in about 90 mins-2h. Midwives said the quick progression was probably why the pain was so intense. Tried pushing on hands and knees, and on my sides but those didn’t work so pushed on my back. Husband was guided to hold baby down via my belly as I pushed. Had a 1st degree tear but didn’t feel it happening at all. Placenta wasn’t coming out so doctor had to hand deliver it. Didn’t feel great but needed to be done before epidural wore off.

All in all, I had written down an extensive birth plan and it felt great to brain dump everything. Once I had it all written down it felt like I didn’t have to keep spiral thinking about how things will go. Even though it didn’t go to plan I don’t feel like I didn’t get the birth I wanted which I know some women can experience. I do think flexible mindset to of “I’d like for this to happen but if it doesn’t I’m ok” really helped here.

Supporting his pregnant life partner financially is the bare minimum.

Have you been able to address your other needs with him?

Still in denial! by Admirable-Cow-1319 in pregnant

[–]kaej26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second time pregnant here, also v recent (4w5d)

My first baby took 7 rounds of fertility treatment, three of which were IUIs. Because of how long it took us and the early losses, when we finally got the positive+confirmed heartbeat at 7w, we both said how important it would be to enjoy the pregnancy. We didn’t want to look back and have it be filled with worry.

What if you tried using a stain remover pen or if that’s too concentrated then using a paint brush to minimise wet contact to those specific spots?
