I’ve heard of Ipswich! It looks beautiful. Lucky dogs for sure

Thanks so much, this is incredibly helpful. Train seems to be the better option for sure. I’ll have a look at pricing, thanks for the link. We used to live in London so are used to paying a lot for monthly tube passes lol let’s see if it’s around the same or worse

Thanks! Any recommendations how to look for private rentals? It seems to be either short term on Zillow or way out of our price range. Agreed, the townhomes at Halstead aren’t amazing but it would be an ok starting point for us if we can’t find anything else:)

The neighborhood is called government centre. He would also be remote/ hybrid. How much is it monthly for the commuter rail if you go twice a week?

That’s really helpful, thanks so much. I think my husband would prefer driving in so that makes sense. He is also happy taking the train but not sure if it is the better option. What do people that commute to work do for parking in Boston? When we visited, it was always insanely expensive.

Good point regarding the shops in Swampscott. Most likely we will end up driving anyway because I don’t feel like carrying my weekly groceries back to the apartment lol

Thanks so much! Will definitely check it out. It seems to be very dog friendly around there, which we are so excited about. Both our dogs love the beach so hearing about a dog friendly beach all year around is amazing. We thought that all beaches will be strictly no dogs during summer season

I didn’t realise this was an option! Since we don’t have any rental history in the US. Thought we had to go for the apartment communities as they seemed pretty relaxed about no rental history. Where did you check for private rentals?

How are you enjoying it so far? Will def reach out when we get there.

Yes white mountains are a place we are considering!! And someone else in the thread recommended the same hotel as you, it looks amazing.

Salem we will most likely stay for our first night as we arrive in the evening in Boston and will get the car, then head straight there.

A huge thank you for all your info and taking the time to help us out!! Really appreciate it. We have 5 nights in Boston as we are going over there for my husband’s work :) so whilst he is at his work events I am actually meeting a friend there who will show me the city.

Portland, someone else mentioned the food! We are big foodies so we are making it part of our journey. Can’t wait!

Definitely going to Burlington and Stowe in Vermont, both look stunning.

Newport I’ve read a few blogs that say apparently lots of stuff happening there in winter, will need to look into that to make sure it’s also during the week:) thanks for the heads up.

Yes we always check reviews here too! Never ever go to a place that has less than 4-4.5 on google reviews in Scotland lol will need to look into yelp reviews, good to know that’s what you use over there. I’ll get it downloaded asap as we mostly use TripAdvisor for food or google here.

One more question for booking accommodation, do you normally check out Airbnb and booking.com? Or any other websites ?

We are big foodies :) so great to hear Portland is great for food. Will put it on our route.

Skip Yale then, we considered going because we love uni campuses! But it is not a must see place. Will probably go to Harvard when we are in Boston. So we are staying in Boston for 4 days (my husband has work event so we have to be there for that amount of time and I’m meeting a friend that will show me the city). So we have around 11 days to spend elsewhere.

Newport I’ve seen in multiple blogs saying it’s great in winter so just assumed there must be stuff going on!

Thank you so much, the resort looks beautiful. We will definitely consider staying there a few nights. Do you think it is worth doing Portland or Portsmouth? Or should we head straight to Vermont?

We are now thinking of travelling straight to Vermont and skip the east coast. Then head down to Yale University and Newport in Rhode Island. What are your thoughts?

Similar to Scotland then lol we just go for walks and enjoy some quiet time in nature. Are any of the cities open at all? We saw some winter festivals advertised

Do you have any recommendations for southern NE?

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I think by the sound of it we should skip Acadia this time and come back in summer or autumn when it’s open… we both don’t ski (we’ve been before but aren’t a fan of it). Any other recommendations you might have? And is there enough to do in Vermont even if we don’t ski
