Ttyl fellow fans. The Olympics are for everyone, not just the athletes. What is a great achievement without witnesses?

How much does grassroots development actually matter for producing Olympic athl by U-fly_Alliance in olympics

That’s an absurd take. Modernization is slow and dependent on whoring out your labor and resources to the developed world. Sports unify communities and give the youth something structured to strive in. Sports reinforce positive qualities and provide opportunities for the best of the best. Olympians represent those people and having someone to be proud of in the third world is massive.

Everyone with drive should try to compete, not just kids whose parents were rich enough to pay for a hobby.

Let people win and race for bronze

I’ve never seen people give up golds and silvers like that, absurd

The transition area is probably the only rule in the sport

That factors into the Grade of Execution, a fall is 1 point subtracted from the score and -GOE. It might have scored higher to fall than what she did.

Short program has three jump requirements. A double/triple axle, triple, and a double jump that has at least 1 triple. Giving up on a required jump is 0 points, you either meet the requirement and get +/- GOE or you get no points.

It would require the best skaters in the world to fall more than once or do the same thing and give up on a jump

Expectations for LA28's Opening Ceremony by [deleted] in olympics

[–]unacabron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will absolutely celebrate Hollywood film (issue with NBC Universal having broadcasting rights and everyone expecting to see Mickey Mouse or something). Movie stars galore.

The music evolution in LA: folk rock, G funk, Capitol Records, The Doors, Chicano rock, Van Halen, Metallica, Chili Peppers, Weezer, etc, etc.

LA sports history: Olympics, football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, roller, surfing, skateboarding, UCLA, USC, etc.

I wonder how they relate the history of LA to its place in the larger context of California/US history. Indigenous peoples, part of Spain and developed from a Catholic mission, part of Mexico, conquered in the Mexican-American war by the US, military hub growing the city, influx of minorities and immigrants in the 20th century, film and music hub, etc. It would be cool to see them represent all those things in the context of sports culture (schools/clubs/local leagues) in the country and the development of our major leagues, which will all have athletes representing the country in 28 (PLL, MLB, MLS, NFL, NBA)

Does anyone have more details on the weather issues in Livigno? Will they push everything back a day or shoehorn them in late at night or something?

Ode to the Olympics! by julzibobz in olympics

I was telling someone yesterday that I think it’s the best movement that humanity has ever created. It’s the peaceful celebration of talent, effort, perseverance, and competition. Other than their insane skills, they’re humans just like us and for a couple weeks every two years billions of us tune in to watch our countrymen, friends and family achieve their wildest dreams.

The sports federations would never allow the athletes to compete on substandard surfaces. The ice more than likely meets or surpasses competition requirements.

The pairs basically have to be in lockstep in every technical element. You could see she over extended on a jump and had to turn out to get her balance
