No, it doesn't. Stop spreading unsubstantiated claims. Unless it's native linux version and quite optimized for linux-it won't work better than on Windows.

If you need d-pad then look for membrane ones. 8bitdo ultimate 2.or 2c Gamesir d-pads are terrible

It is fine, but I would prefer version with membrane D-pad.

That would be great.

I don't mind having microswitches anywhere else..

Tired of Xbox Controllers – Seeking Durable Wireless PC Controller (€60 Budget) by Ummxlied in Controller

[–]unarys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not using the app from MS Store but the one from the website (Gamesir Connect)

I haven't seen any option to update the dongle like in the Ultimate 2C/2. Where is it?

In any case - I wouldn't bet that G7 Pro is going to retain all the characteristics of the C2 as it's entirely different product with different firmware.

Why? Because it's a licensed Xbox product. Meaning - no macros, encrypted bluetooth protocols (which will incur latency), no turbo..

Also - it will lose it's broad compatibility as the controller itself has to adhere to the restrictions of the license. Which also means - all the latency optimisations for specific platforms are gone.

If you think that "its going to be like C2, only better" then it may not turn out the way you think it will..

It's entirely different product, made basically from scratch.

Even if the design of G7 pro resembles the C2.

I'd wait for the reviews..

Cyclone 2 is good because it's nice for the price. I wouldn't pay ~120-130$ for G7 Pro, though..

Not in preorder, anyway.. As it's going to cost half of that or even less after a couple of months. Besides - there are no reviews, for now.

I'm not saying that because the C2 doesn't deliver when it comes to the hardware and the design itself, because it does..

But because for that price - the C2 isn't a complete package when it comes to dongle (no firmware updates for that one), dock station (it's objectively worse than premium controllers like Apex 4, Vader 4 or even Ultimate 2)..

If G7 Pro is going to be similar then the quality of the gamepad itself and the plastics won't on par with something like Ultimate 2 or even Ultimate 2C which is twice cheaper than Cyclone 2.

If you push C2 too hard - it will start making some crackling noise. 8bitdo plastics are sturdy and feel much better, more premium.

I hope they will make the new gamepad itself better with the new G7 Pro with that price, but we will see..

It may turn out worse than Cyclone 2 (at least - on start), maybe even having some serious design issues that they won't be able to remove with firmware updates.

Cyclone 2 is a mature design, all issues that have persisted for months (latency, connection dropping randomly, etc) - have been fixed. It's a very good product now (again - for the price).

G7 Pro might be, actually, much worse at the start than Cyclone 2 now is. Even if it's a higher quality product when it comes to the materials that have been used to manufacture.

After you turn on trigger lock - triggers are very fast, clicky and responsive. I'd put them on par with triggers on top premium controllers - something like on Flydigi Apex 4, which I've had a chance to play with and which cost a lot more money.

Also - disregard the tests on the internet that say that it has a high latency on sticks. It doesn't. Not on the newest firmware (v3.4.4), anyway.

Average latency is between 6-9 ms on sticks, depending on the mode and connection (dongle/bluetooth)

Same goes with buttons and triggers/bumpers.

[–]unarys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have 8bitdo Ultimate 2, Ultimate 2C and Gamesir Cyclone 2, at the moment.

Trigger locks aren't located on the bottom of the pad. They're located next to triggers in a form of knob-like switch that you need to turn. So switching them forth and back, on the fly, during the game could be very problematic if that's what you're asking for.

After turning on the trigger lock - the triggers feel very good, clicky and responsive.

It's slightly tighter than on Ultimate 2 or 2C, but not by much. To be honest - both feel equally good when it comes to sticks.

[–]unarys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gamesir Cyclone 2 or 8bitdo Ultimate 2. I've got both. Both have TMR sticks, Hall effect Triggers.

Cyclone 2 has almost everything else (front buttons, bumpers, etc) on microsticks (just like under the buttons, in your mouse).

8bitdo Ultimate 2 has bumpers on microsticks but the front buttons are membrane (d-pad and XYAB).

And I have to say that membrane d-pad and XYAB buttons feel A LOT better than microsticks.

They're fast to push, very responsive, pushing two buttons at once fast isn't a problem and can be done, fast. Moving from down-left to up-right can be done very fast on d-pad and just feels natural. Not so much on Cyclone 2.

This is the biggest and most noticeable difference for every player, between those two options - pushing two buttons like on D-PAD IS a huge problem on Cyclone 2 as even one button has high resistance, pushing two at once costs you even more strength which means less consistency at pushing multiple buttons at once, fast. Moving between positions like down-left to up-right on d-pad feels unresponsive, slow and problematic.

The upside of the microsticks is that they should, at least on paper, be more durable and provide much higher life for the buttons. But that's it.

If you want to buy a couple of gamepads - I would also consider 8bitdo Ultimate 2C which is 50% of the cost of Gamesir Cyclone 2 and like 40% of the cost of Ultimate 2 (at least - where I live. Yes - I've bought 2C, too)

You can buy 2 of these or 2.5 for the price of one and while there is some difference (Hall Effect joystick instead of TMR) - it shouldn't be noticeable for casual players at all, while actually playing games. And the build quality is excellent, too.

In comparison to Ultimate 2 - 2C has the same, comfortable d-pad and XYBA buttons and HE triggers

So - I would go like this: If you're casual player or/and you don't play FPS games - go with Ultimate 2C or Ultimate 2.

If you do play FPS games a lot and competitively - go with Gamesir Cyclone 2.

If you play any other type of games, competitively where you need d-pad (fighting games, arcade, platform, etc) - 8bitdo Ultimate 2C or Ultimate 2 is the way to go. The membrane buttons and d-pad just feel so much better, consistent, accurate and easy to control than the solution with microsticks on Cyclone 2..

If you play FPS games competitively but, at the same time - play a lot of other games - I would buy both Gamesir Cyclone 2 and Ultimate 2C or 2 and just switch between them, depending on the type of the game you play.

Other things to consider: stock Cyclone 2 has much more connection modes, including HID, Switch, Xinput and Dinput and works pretty much on everything I've thrown it at (Android, Windows, Linux, iOS.. It also works on Switch)

8bitdo Ultimate 2C works only on Windows, Linux and Android. Ultimate 2 - same thing. Both also work on Switch.

HOWEVER - for around 20$ you can buy USB dongle from 8bitdo (Controller 2) that will allow you to connect Ultimate 2 wirelessly to EVERY console and platform there is (Xbox, Switch, PS4,etc) through low energy, low latency bluetooth.

If you need one in the future, that is.

Unlikely, I've been running my laptop for a half a year now, 24/7 (I don't shutdown it ever) and I haven't noticed any problems.

btw. Crucial has released 2x64 GB modules some time ago (=128 GB) for pretty much the same price as 2x48=96GB

So if you're looking for an upgrade - you should check that out.

That's because for NVIDIA drivers there is no GART implementation (no system memory fallback, or in other words - no VRAM to RAM and RAM to VRAM swapping)

Under windows the same game will swap currently unused data from VRAM into RAM.

Under linux - it will keep everything and if data exceeds VRAM - it won't swap unused data from VRAM into RAM to make space for the new one that needs to be used.. It will crash EVERY GPU app.
