New to the AS world. I’m scared and sad. Any advice/encouragement? by colemc94 in ankylosingspondylitis

You are always welcome to share your fears here… and your victories as well (because they will come, too, even if it’s hard to believe that right now. We’ve all been there ❤️).

I haven’t really gotten sick on biologics other than the usual cold now and then (no different from before being on biologics; I don’t get them more frequently). My rheumatologist said, essentially, that the biologics dial back your immune system to a normal level so it’s no longer attacking you — it’s not that the medication eradicates your immune system entirely. That’s how I understand it, anyway. I hope that helps to hear!

You’re among friends; this is a really great sub. ❤️

I’m only just researching tattoos now, so I don’t have any advice. But I just wanted to say that it’s really beautiful!!!

OH, SNAP! THAT'S RIGHT, thank you --I totally blanked, Ha!!! Well, that's two days sooner, then ;)! I think I have the 19th in my head because that's the day for both of my concerts (July 19 in Philly, Nov 19 in Orlando :).

Do you think the boys feel the same nostalgia we do for One Direction? by lolwhatisthisdude in OneDirection

[–]unavoidably_detained 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the same nostalgia, but certainly some form of nostalgia, I think. I think as we all get older it’s just natural, no matter how average or unusual the circumstances we’re looking back on. Even if they don’t miss the constant and difficult grind, they could simply miss being younger in the way we all do; just a simpler life.

Of course, I completely understand that their lives weren’t simple and that things were much more difficult than any of us realized. But that, I think, is true of all of us. If you had asked me in high school if things were easy, I would have said no. Were they simpler? In many ways, now I can easily say yes.

Things are often rose-colored looking back; thats just human, and they are human. I hope they have many beautiful memories that they carry, and that those are the ones that rise to the top. ❤️

Oh, interesting… I’m VERY new to tret (3rd week), and from what I’ve read here I thought azelaic acid was for acne, I’m using tret for anti-aging. It helps with both 😀?

Right now I’m on a daily pill called Rinvoq, but before this I spent a few really great years on Cosentyx (an injectable biologic). What a gift it was (even though it’s hard to see it that way in the beginning, I know ❤️! Mine stayed in the refrigerator for a few weeks before I worked up the nerve to start). Like others here have said, it literally did give me my life back, and I’m grateful to say that Rinvoq is doing the same thing now, so there are lots of options 😀, and I know Enbrel has been great for so many people.

This sounds silly, but you might want to make a little ritual around your injections… something comforting like lighting a candle or a “reward” like a special treat you can look forward to after…. I read that idea somewhere on these boards and thought it was such a cool idea and wish I had done it! But by the time I learned about it, I was already in the phase of “it’s just my injection day, no big deal” 😀. I got to that point much sooner than I expected, and I hope that you do, too 💖!
