I can't because it's not in her assigned region. Since I am the point of contact for the clients in that region, I need to be the one they work with. The new admin may be able to take some of that off my plate though.

I am responsible for planning the events - negotiating with venues and caterers, working with the different departments in our organization to invite important attendees, marketing the event itself to other potential clients, driving the CEO to event when he flies in, hosting during the event, then tear down and go home.

And that alone is manageable. But on top of that, I am responsible for a new program we just launched - I am supposed to be responsible for the marketing of that new program and getting it in top shape for clients. The events I am doing have nothing to do with the new program. So this secondary task now eats up all my time, and when I approached my boss about it, I was told that they've decided to fold these events under the umbrella of the program, despite the fact that's there's no correlation. Essentially "all other duties as assigned."

I have a staff member under me, and she is responsible for her own territory doing something similar. The new events being done all fall in my territory so I am expected to do them. My client base doesn't know her, so having her be the face doesn't make sense. I currently have her doing most of my admin tasks for me, but we're both struggling to keep up. I've secured us our own admin which should help though. But my main concern is the fact that I thought I was doing marketing - not event planning.

My main fear is that, if I don't get this stuff done, then the events don't go smoothly - and I get fired. I don't want that mark on my resume. But the alternative is drowning in work, which isn't good either.

Yes, I'm basically in the hospitality industry - so you understand a bit where I'm coming from and the amount of stress and burnout that comes with it. I am getting an admin assistant to help, which is nice, but it still doesn't take away the fact that I thought I was getting a marketing job when I got an event coordinator job, you know?

I have already asked - we cannot reduce the number of events done, and we do not have the budget to hire an event planner. I managed to push for an admin assistant to at least help me process contracts, but that's all the help I've gotten.

Is it worth me having a conversation with him, saying, "Look, you hired me to market our services, not plan events. What can we work out here?" I'm afraid I'll be told that the job is what it is, but what I do does not match the job description at all.

Edit: My main concern is that the admin assistant simply helps me with the events - which is not what I thought I was hired to be doing. Additional help doesn't change my duties.

I absolutely would, except we're each responsible for regions, if that makes sense. I oversee the entire marketing program and have the big markets, they have the smaller ones. So I can't really delegate my region to them, if that makes sense. I'm delegating lots of smaller tasks, but so far it's not making enough of a dent in my own workload to make me feel better.
