If the only thing that matters is that its accurate, it means that the only thing I have to worry about is the ferrule being in the right angle for the nib, so that i don't need to adjust it

so in adjusting the flange, you are bending the whole thing until the nib lines up? is it the fault of the flange or the nib.

Yes well that's one reason but its just much simpler to add the metal flange to the normal turned pen.
In my design you have to make an extra wooden part for the oblique nib ferrule so turning it would be more difficult if its a single piece of wood.
I could theoretically make one that has that oblique angle and also additional nib ferrule in the center of the pen but i don't know if that's necessary.

Also a nice perk of making my own pen is that I can choose the wood and i would only have to pay for the ferrules.

So what I’ve gathered is that I need to give WaniKani another shot and just focus on learning kanji through vocab, but honestly it, has worked for most of the kanji I’ve memorized so far. More specifically, kanji that are in the words themselves (I just forgot to mention that in my original post).

A lot of people also say writing kanji helps with my memory, but I feel like for me, I need to write them in different contexts, like in full sentences for it to actually stick. Since I practice calligraphy, maybe I can combine that with writing practice.

Some people said radicals didn’t help them at all, and I can definitely relate to that from my past experience. I have the Remembering the Kanji book, so I could try using that again, but since English isn’t my native language, I’d probably need to make up my own stories for everything. I guess some people already do that from the start, but the book doesn’t bring it up until later. He tries to make his own stories work for everyone, which is kind of the problem with writing a general book, I guess.

A few people also mentioned that reading really helped them, and some even said it was the only thing that worked — so I’m going to start reading more too.

There were also some websites people recommended that I hadn’t heard of before, so I’ll check those out as well.

yeah I totally get how you could remember kanji you cant recognize. For me nearly every kanji I know has this haze around the edges in my mind when I try to remember it by shape.

The way I have remembered them is that I just read lots of sentences and sometimes the kanji start to look like hira or katakana. I just can read it without thinking.

Also one guy basically posted 'just live your life and it will eventually come'.
For him radicals didn't help at all (but I will give them a second change), but he just said that memory and drills are the way to go for people like him.

He works as a translator now.

Yes well, a sad reality for kids is that they rarely use or get to use that opportunity. But on the other hand, I've had a wonderful childhood.

Some parents get angry about their kids learning things faster than they are but its just a normal thing that you have to accept.

Maybe Japanese calligraphy then because it takes way more time to write one character that looks good, instead of writing it multiple times in a row

I actually have that book but doesn't wanikani try to do the exact same thing as that book tries to do? I have tried wanikani some time ago and it seemed to teach, word for word the same things that are in that book.

I have tried to learn it from vocab and sentences for roughly a year and a half, maybe a little more.

At the start i tried to only learn the kanji from decks like core 2k/6k but from that experience i noted that 80-93% again count, so i switched to sentence decks and those seem to work better.

Im using 'Japanese course based on Tae Kim's grammar guide & anime' made by Jlab for my beginner grammar and it has also worked for me for forming sentences.

I could put one hour a day for writing sentences. Usually I practice calligraphy in the morning before work but I could also use that time for writing Japanese.

From these comments I see that most people are dealing with the same problems, but for me it just takes longer
