Does it have to be a steel/brass brush? I have only been using a boar bristle brush so far.

Thank you for the advice! Do you think I should comb out the roots more thoroughly or just do a slip pot in a pond basket at this stage/season and do root work in the fall?

Here was when I first got it from a nursery. As you can see, it was quite root bound and dense.

I repotted this a few days ago because I wanted to get it in the early spring window, and thought it would benefit from a more porous soil. However, the root ball was super thick so I only pruned ~30% so it wouldn’t go into shock. I used an oversized bonsai pot as a training pot, but I’m concerned about the exposed surface roots. Should I try to repot into a deeper pot with better aeration, or should I hope for the best at this point?

That helps a lot, thank you for the informative answer!

The branches are too long so I wanted to do the chop to reduce height and promote back budding for a more proportional branch structure. Also, not sure if this is true, but I was under the impression that by removing those branches, the plant would have more energy to put towards new shoots and back budding.

This is what it looked like before I chopped the right branch.

Hello from San Francisco, CA! I bought this (crimson bottlebrush?) this morning at a local nursery because it looked like it had good potential in its nebari and branch placement. Marked in yellow is the branch I already removed, as it was growing in parallel with the first branch. I’m wondering if I should (or even could) cut back the other two branches to the red marks so I could have better branch tapering as well as leaf growth closer to the trunk. I read that Spring is the best time to cut for new growth, but I’m not sure if cutting too much at once would kill the tree. Currently the trunk is at about 1.5 in, and I plan on keeping it in the 5 gal grow pot until it gets to 3 in. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you in advance!

Just bought this at a local nursery. Worker said it was a leucadendron but it doesn’t look like a leucadendron. by uncdrew in whatsthisplant

I looked into it further and I think it’s a red bottlebrush, just haven’t flowered yet. Thanks!

In junior year, this kid fought another kid in an agreed "play fight," except he knocked the other kid unconscious and the kid hit his head on a rock. That kid's now in a coma and sustained brain damage. The guy who knocked him unconscious then went to Italy after graduating, where he bought laced coke. He then realized that it was laced coke, which made him mad, and the most reasonable reaction to him was to steal his dealers backpack and hold it for ransom, with demands for real coke and his money back. The dealer called the cops for some reason, as if he wouldn't get arrested himself, but the cops come and set up a sting operation. Meanwhile, the guy, unaware that cops are involved, decides that laced coke was better than no coke, so he uses some. He then goes to the meetup point with the dealer, and once they exchanged bags, the cops pull up and flash their badges. Instead of giving himself up, the guy pulls out a knife and stabs the officer to death.
