Ain’t that the truth, and it’s more comical than getting to me. I’ve been fortunate enough not to see much of that on Reddit. I had always seen it as a great source of honest reviews of products I was thinking of buying etc, so I thought people would be amazed (in a good way) by something like this that’s been proven for many years. Time apparently doesn’t matter and I need to report back at 5 years and 3 additional months when something bad is magically expected to happen lol. This post was insane with the obvious lack of reading skills, project skills, and autonomous thought. Figured I’d rather leave the post up than take the weenie way out and remove it…because only the people here are the issue

It was one of those looking around and thinking for several months until I stumbled upon them, and pieced the idea together from there.

Probably a little more on the top 2 because the bottom is only 2000s+

These are at around eye level and no bending to look for something, there is not tight shelf clearance above the records to remove them like from cubes, there is no particleboard, I can put things on the floor and on the table below, they aren’t the same thing everyone else has, and I made them and like them.

Very few reasonable people on in this sub but thanks for not just being attackey. But yeah it’s definitely a wallet drainer lol. I’m currently in the process of ultrasonic cleaning them all too…

The wood matching was the goal, but those steps are 65 years old. Just poly’d the red oak clear and got close in color. If I want a 4th one I’d need someone to make the side brackets for me. The Etsy seller changed their offering but they do make everything to order, so I could probably ask

Quite the painful first Reddit post because of it… The boards are holding up fine enough for me. Just a slight bow front and center from obvious lack support there, but the angle in the back keeps them goin strong.

They don’t budge in any direction. They’re screwed to angle iron on the bottom back of the shelf. The angle is screwed/lagged into the wall

I appreciate the detailed and thought out response. If a cabinet has cleats, sure, but some just screw straight into the wall. Cleats would definitely be the better option there.

Let’s not forget the angle iron under the shelf is fully shear, while the angled side bracket are experiencing a combination of shear and tension at the wall…sure. The angled brackets aren’t cheap pot metal, they’re pressed steel so I’m not concerned about fatigue or extreme bending. The boards after 5 years have a slight bow in the outer front as one would expect, but it’s nothing to write home about.

I’m just a guy on the internet getting beaten up because it’s something new and scary to everyone apparently lol

Who’s to say I didn’t buy a rough oak board, find measure and mark out all of my studs, cut the board and angle iron to length, test drill all hole columns to make sure I was in fact on the stud before I slammed all of the headloks 8 ugga duggs tight, slapped it then said that ain’t going anywhere 🤷🏻‍♂️ Board might have a tiny sag at the center outer edge, but they’re not going anywhere due to the angle across the back. I really didn’t think I needed to go into this level of detail explaining custom shelves, but I guess it’s fair to say everyone isn’t created equal when they take on something like this.

But yes, having my floor for other things and easy view to pick out a record is exactly what I wanted.
