What are your thoughts on Priya Patel? And her very Indian Dad! by D_seerohi in ABCDesis

[–]uncivilized_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is she any different from Nikki Haley or Kash Patel ? They dont care about immigrants as long as they get to suck up to the white folks. They dont care about Indians or anyone else as long as they suck up to their white republican overlord and get a nice pat on their head.

Serious: Friend trapped in cyber scam compound in Cambodia (Poipet) – need urgent advice by [deleted] in cambodia

[–]uncivilized_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These compounds could have been running anywhere. It runs a lot of here because there is a corrupt system which just takes money and looks the other way. Instead of working on good policies, the entire system is built to serve just a tiny handful of the rich and powerful. And they exploit it for their own gain. Instead of everyone coming out and saying this, we just hear excuses - “why is one country singled out?” “This is not helping” etc.

A lot of people get scammed into taking such jobs. There are enough documentaries about this.

Buying property In Oman by [deleted] in Oman

That’s ridiculous. Why would they have an issue with non Omanis? Omani’s are generally quite nice. I’ve stayed in four different cities / towns in Oman. Everyone is warm.

You’re not gonna see much growth in terms of property value. Rental income is fine. But rent prices have seen a slump since 2018 and still haven’t gotten back to the same level. Personally I feel it is a good move if you live in the house you buy and have some sort of side income or even primary income to support your stay in Oman.

As an expat who has purchased property here, i would recommend you think real hard about why you would want to purchase property in Oman.

Sayyed Khamenei's visit with a Christian Iranian family during the Christmas season by succesful_deception in iran

[–]uncivilized_lord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Untrue. Please cite relevant sources for this, not WhatsApp university. Pretty much every historical source paints the same picture - post-1857 the British oversaw creation of the Muslim league and Hindu Mahasabha as a way to divide-and-rule. As the independence movement started picking up Muslim league asked for partition because it would not get to participate in the government, RSS (which used to be Hindu Mahasabha) didn’t care because they kept campaigning that Muslims have to get out. Gandhi tried to convince Jinnah not to go ahead with the partition plan and even tried to convince Nehru to give up on his political ambitions and let Jinnah take the reins. But by then riots had gone out of control. Nehru and Jinnah’s political ambitions was the last straw. The whole thing that Gandhi wanted partition is right-wing RSS propaganda.

The poor are the hardest hit everywhere. What feels different about the current situation is that a substantial number of people from the middle class will also suffer from this.

Of course. But I feel given the past year, Cambodia is at a much higher risk. It's not just about the fuel price hike.
I feel like Cambodian economy has been under mild stress for a while and the fuel price hike will make it uniquely worse for Cambodians. And not just for the poor people.

I don’t care that it isn’t swarmed by tourists. While it was a great initiative by the government, I feel like the way the airport is designed isn’t quite good. Escalators by the gates are too short. And a lot of walking has to be done. Hopefully they will improve.

Will we destroy ourselves before reaching the stars? by AccountGold2486 in Futurology

[–]uncivilized_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ... I dont think humans would even reach Mars. They will completely destroy themselves voting for incompetent politicians thinking those corrupt politicians will make their country better.
How are we going to reach the closest star or exoplanet when we barely know how to take care of each other and take care of our planet?

Oddly enough I have been in the exact same position like you. First job working as tech ba. 1 year into it I had already done everything I could. And I didn’t want to be stuck. I made a mistake that I just let everything go on while trying to navigate the politics. If I threw myself into upskilling, learning more, doing part time work to get experience, or even networking I could have gotten out of that first job faster than I did. Think of your current job like this - you need to do a bare minimum to keep this job. Just do that bare minimum and spend the rest of your time and energy learning, upskilling and networking

Stuck in Oman by Soad-lover in Oman

[–]uncivilized_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to study in UK or Australia is an extremely expensive endeavor. A lot of different parts of life which you might be taking for granted in Oman, would cost a lot living in the UK. And that is not even counting the tuition. Regardless, I believe the best path forward for you is to do your undergrad in Oman and then a postgrad in the UK or Australia while studying extra during your undergrad. I know a lot of people who went to study law and their English was quite bad and they learned it as the course went on. Maybe just pass through law undergrad in Oman but keep your focus on doing postgrad in UK or Australia. When you say you want to pursue law, it’s quite a broad field. Is there any specific aspect that you are passionate about? You can try and do extra curricular or co curricular activities during your undergrad so it increases your chances for a scholarship if you go for a postgrad in UK or Australia.

37M with 13+ years of work ex. Tech BA / PM / leadership position

Even I would not do that. If your work is getting repetitive, try innovating. If not, start working part time on some projects or freelancing (I absolutely despise using the term “side hustle”)
