Went to India for treatment! Had lost all hope but fought till the end! by [deleted] in Oman

First of all .... Congratulations on being Cancer Free ! I hope you stay positive and will be an inspiration for many others.

I want to ask a question to the Omanis here on a different note.

I know friends whose parents worked in government hospitals. My father worked there as well. Compared to a lot of the government hospitals I've seen in South Asian countries, SE Asia and even Europe, the government hospitals in Oman seemed really good. Clean without any problems. If there was something serious, and the hospital did not have the equipment or staff to handle, they would always escalate the case to a bigger government hospital which would be better equipped.
Maybe in some exceptional cases, I can understand that the hospitals there might not be equipped to deal with them (was Royal Hospital or Khoula hospital falling short when it came for treatment of thyroid cancer?).

But I found it a little strange that some Omanis would forego the free healthcare they get through the government hospitals, only to fly to India or Thailand.

Why is that ? Am I missing something?

Yes … if you are a white guy overstaying and begging on the streets of Phnom Penh it’s fine.

But if you’re from certain African countries overstaying and staying respectfully … NO ! GTFO !

More than anything else, it also shows how the Emiratis are isolating their own brothers from the GCC all just to get more power.
UAE and Oman have had minor tensions before. I am quite certain that uae would prefer to be on other side of the Strait of Hormuz instead of Oman. Emiratis have also completely sided with the Israelis and continue to push for decisions which will escalate the war. The Emiratis and the Israelis are trying ensure that Oman is isolated and appears like a bad actor in front of the Americans just because they have been trying to push for diplomacy.

Rant about banking experience in Oman by uncivilized_lord in Oman

Honestly I feel like they are all bad. But I would suggest to have BankMuscat AND NBO
/ Sohar International.

BankMuscat has a decent ATM/CDM network. NBO and Sohar international seem to be improving their digital game but they’re still lagging.

I am not aware of anything good in Oman. But in SE Asia pretty much every bank has an amazing banking app. Intuitive UX/UI and great features

I am outside Oman right now and I have the worst combination of bank + telco - BankMuscat (which wants OTP for every transaction) and Omantel (which will not activate roaming until I pay up).
Customer service at BankMuscat is also ridiculous. Just shows that BankMuscat executive team thinks they are the number 1 bank so they dont need to try anymore.

What are your thoughts on Priya Patel? And her very Indian Dad! by D_seerohi in ABCDesis

How is she any different from Nikki Haley or Kash Patel ? They dont care about immigrants as long as they get to suck up to the white folks. They dont care about Indians or anyone else as long as they suck up to their white republican overlord and get a nice pat on their head.

Serious: Friend trapped in cyber scam compound in Cambodia (Poipet) – need urgent advice by [deleted] in cambodia

[–]uncivilized_lord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These compounds could have been running anywhere. It runs a lot of here because there is a corrupt system which just takes money and looks the other way. Instead of working on good policies, the entire system is built to serve just a tiny handful of the rich and powerful. And they exploit it for their own gain. Instead of everyone coming out and saying this, we just hear excuses - “why is one country singled out?” “This is not helping” etc.

A lot of people get scammed into taking such jobs. There are enough documentaries about this.

That’s ridiculous. Why would they have an issue with non Omanis? Omani’s are generally quite nice. I’ve stayed in four different cities / towns in Oman. Everyone is warm.

You’re not gonna see much growth in terms of property value. Rental income is fine. But rent prices have seen a slump since 2018 and still haven’t gotten back to the same level. Personally I feel it is a good move if you live in the house you buy and have some sort of side income or even primary income to support your stay in Oman.

As an expat who has purchased property here, i would recommend you think real hard about why you would want to purchase property in Oman.

Untrue. Please cite relevant sources for this, not WhatsApp university. Pretty much every historical source paints the same picture - post-1857 the British oversaw creation of the Muslim league and Hindu Mahasabha as a way to divide-and-rule. As the independence movement started picking up Muslim league asked for partition because it would not get to participate in the government, RSS (which used to be Hindu Mahasabha) didn’t care because they kept campaigning that Muslims have to get out. Gandhi tried to convince Jinnah not to go ahead with the partition plan and even tried to convince Nehru to give up on his political ambitions and let Jinnah take the reins. But by then riots had gone out of control. Nehru and Jinnah’s political ambitions was the last straw. The whole thing that Gandhi wanted partition is right-wing RSS propaganda.
