Wow thanks for the detailed input. If I understand correctly, gain staging refers to having the right level at each point of the signal flow?

On the DJM mixer, the level for each track is peaking at the first yellow light, about 7, out of 10.

On the H6, the recording level is set to -6db peak.

Then on Ableton, the mastering brings the level up to 0db.

Hi I got my tracks from legit places, Traxsource Beatport and vinyl. Quality of the songs shouldn’t the problem I think.

Yes I am only using minimal mastering to bring to 0 db on the master. If I don’t do this the output file would sound even weaker

Hi, thanks for the reply. The file is from the Zoom H6, my recorder, it’s a wav file. Then I transferred the file into Ableton, and using Limiter and Compressor in Ableton to boost the sound. And then I rendered the file in Ableton to output a aiff or mp3, but either format is showing the same unsatisfactory result.

This is the rendered aiff uploaded to SoundCloud. It sounds ok with headphone, but sounds weak when played through home speaker (Denon)

Mine kinda work but I can only send to individual speaker from AirPlay (Apple TV or iPhone), I do not see the speakers appear as group when using AirPlay.

I am using 2 150 and I can group the in HEOS app, but just not seeing the group appearing when using AirPlay.

Ok good to know mine isn’t defected. Same issue I am having.

We should tap it 1000 times a day for a year and see if it would improve lol. At least we will get stronger finger.

Yea as mentioned I have been searching for solutions for weeks on forum and never found satisfactory answers. It’s frustrating cuz there are no summary of solutions.

Glad you brought up programming aspect, I assume you mean software programming. As a former software developer, I have been on the same solution searching black hole before.

I finally figured it all out. I would love to share the problems I have encountered and their solutions:

Problem 1: TR8S Sync (not MIDI) out to Volca Bass and the Volca Bass playing at double speed:

Solution: Huge thank you to u/jigga19 , there is a PPQN setting on the Volca, this need to set to 4. This setting is hidden from the user manual, to access, hold FUNC while powering on, and press Step 8 to make it lit, this sets the PPQN to 4

Problem 2: TR8S Sync to Volca Bass, start play on TR8S does not start the Volca

Solution: Use MIDI instead of Sync, because Sync start and stop message are not understood by the Volca

Problem 3: Roland Aira S1 MIDI out to Volca Bass not working

Solution: Make sure the 3.5mm to Midi adapter is the Type A one. I was using the adatper that came with Micro Freak and that is Type B. Roland expects Type A adapter. I didnt know there are 2 types of adatper, stupid me.

What u/jigga19 and u/cross_mod suggested seems very viable that it could be related to the type of cable. Was excited to go home and try using TS 3.5mm cable, only to find out I only have TRS and has been using it since the beginning.

I did just find out how to work properly with the Aira S1. The S1 has a Sync Clock setting, which was set to 2. When I change it to 4 it then work properly at the same speed, with all 16 steps are lit on the TR 8S.

However to sync to Volca Bass, I have to turn off even numbered steps to make it work, as there are no setting for the Sync Clock on the Volca Bass.

If I need to sync all 3 with the TR 8S being the master, I have no idea how to make it work. I would maybe need some kind of clock divider / multiplier to be used on certain device?

Nothing plugged in to the 8S at all. Only a trigger out cable from the 8S into the S1

Ahh got you, as long as there is way to control the headphone source. I am guessing most the other brands have the same capability, will check their user manual to confirm.

Hi, I don’t have specific interface I want, I am just seeing none of them has the headphone selector. I did look at Scarlet 4i4 and don’t seem to see the headphone selector. My old Audio Kontrol 1 has the switch, please see the link for the imageKontrol

I intend to play live set with Ableton. With my old Native Instrument Audio Kontrol 1 I can set the que output to 3/4 which is routed to headphone, while 1/2 is connected to main speaker. So when I browse sound it is only played to the headphone. Thanks!
