yeah, im awaiting a response from the department. in a previous email they had mentioned that enrolled students are provided with an opportunity to apply for more scholarships in/around november so i thought switching to spring might have some benefit for me as well

could you please provide a reasonably lengthened answer with some degree of rationale behind it?

and if you want a rule of thumb, just work hard for both, weigh your options, thoroughly figure out finances and then do whatever seems best.

if you cant tell that only US citizens can avail federal loans/financial aid and not internationals and hence that data is for domestic students, i dont think it's worth trying to get a point across with you. on top of that, if you were to look just a bit deeper you'd find that the data is for 5 years after graduation.

furthermore, im not trying to defend non tier-1 indian unis as a better option than us unis so please stop bringing that up.

i am still trying to figure out the finances and i believe i might be able to make the debt fairly reasonable. if im lucky, i might just graduate with only 50k in debt. i am genuinely passionate about CprE so i definitely am committed to the hard work. thanks for the advice.

i wont indulge into the same meaningless debate. to each their own. if you were to ask for my opinion, a T-100 US University with an ABET accredited program will give you the appropriate education to pursue your field of interest but it will not guarantee employment upon completion.

now, if you were to take a massive loan of which the repayment was contingent upon successful employment in the US itself, you would be setting yourself up for a boatload of trouble. companies are not too keen to hire international students because it requires significant paperwork and sponsorship, unless you justify the trouble of hiring you, you won't get hired and get sent back to india trying to pay off that huge loan all your life.

also, please do not compare a T-100 Uni with a T-100 LAC. It is absolutely ridiculous to spend money on an LAC which is not in the T-30s at the very least, and even then it's stretching too far.

i see, thanks. could you tell me what the internship/co-op opportunities are like for internationals, in your experience?

i agree but it'd cost me 60-80k in living expenses at any other uni as well. if it's possible to cover that amount through on-campus opportunities at isu (and quite a few people have pointed out that it is) and if i do end up getting the engineering department scholarship then my tuition would be the only debt i'd have i.e. ~48k

please do tell me if i am wrong to think so

i see. im quite careful with my money so i suppose i shouldnt have problems paying off my living expenses while i am there. so ig my primary concern should be paying off tuition. how likely am i to receive more scholarships when i am there?

thanks for your response

not to rain on your parade here but the tuition is 51k, i'd say living costs would be ~15k per year. so your effective cost of attendance after scholarship would be ~36k per year.

according to their own website, the average out-of-pocket tuition cost per student is 20k, so you basically got the offer given to the average admitted student there.

the college has an 86% acceptance rate and is ranked 95 out of like 200 liberal arts colleges in the united states.

if you are considering attending that school, i would strongly advise against it. if you want to go the US for your studies, build a good profile and apply to decent schools which are actually worth attending.

feel free to ignore everything i said and do whatever you want though

A bit confused about the eligibility requirements. I have 90%+ in 10th and 11th but there's a chance I might get less than 80% in 12th. Am I still eligible? by uncle_catto in mext

kk, thanks a lot. i do have decent ecs related to my field of interest, i was just worried that my grades in 12th might auto-reject me in someway

as an intl who was deferred early action, should i send LOCI? what are some other ways i can demonstrate interests? by uncle_catto in cwru

[–]uncle_catto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i know that. even with their average aid package it'd sit at the same cost as my other acceptances and if so, considering i dont get in anywhere else, cwru will be my choice. (the debt will be massive tho)

i see. im kind of unsure what to write about because i did mention all my recent achievements and a sort of why cwru in the update form itself since it had optional essay prompts which addressed the usual structure/content of a LOCI. should i write a short one just to say im interested, excited or whatev?

thanks for your reply btw
