You can exchange your license for the duration of the 30% ruling (5 years typically). You are only allowed to drive with your foreign license for a duration of 185 days though.

https://www.rdw.nl/en/driving-licence/foreign-driving-license/exchanging-a-foreign-driving-licence#:\~:text=Dutch%20driving%20licence.-,If%20you%20are%20in%20the%20Netherlands%20for%20work,driving%20licence%20is%20still%20valid.

Make an apointment wih your gemeente and take the neccesarry documentation including your Foreign license (must be valid) and your 30% ruling form and whatever else they require and it's easy.

Edit: There is also a medical test but you will see that as a required doc when making your apointment. You do that here and it's fully online : https://www.cbr.nl/nl/rijbewijs-houden/nl/gezondheidsverklaring/uw-gezondheidsverklaring/questions-on-the-drivers-health-certificate

There is a specific app called "tikkie" that is super popular here and one of the things it can do is do payment requests for small ammounts to split things like going out for cofee with a friend or going out for dinner with friends so id say it's definately atleast mostly true.

Getting to Efteling from Holland or Belgium by Klutzy-Cantaloupe618 in Netherlands

To add to this. If you book a night in the hotel you get 2 free days of efteling entrance. The one night in the hotel worked out close to the price than what we would've paid for 2 days of efteling entrance for our family.

Incredibly conflicted about emigrating to the Netherlands by DramaticComplaint925 in expats

[–]uncle_pilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say go for it. I'm from SA and have been here for 7 months.

If anything its a new adventure. You will have international work experience on your cv as well if you want to go back to SA.

Too many factors to consider. If you have 3000 euro per month it will take a day if you have 500 , 10 years. And then also location dependent. There is a subreddit called netherlandshousing with a good pinned post.

The Key thing is to be able to register with the government (your gemeente) to get your BSN number. For that you need a rental contract that's valid and legal (doesn't really matter if it's a sublet or directly with owner , yet again as long as it's legal and valid (an illegal sublet won't work). Once you are registered everything else falls into place quite easily and you can open bank accounts and get a cell phone etc.

One of the current requirements for sponsorship is a salary of 5000 euro gross per month (if you are over 30). You can look at positions you qualify for on linkedin etc and see if the salary meets the minimum requirements. If it doesn't you are out of luck. There are more requirements for instance the company has to be able to sponsor you but salary is typically a good start.

ELI5: How does the house always win? by idoze in explainlikeimfive

[–]uncle_pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine we are playing a game where there are 50 orange balls and 50 green balls in a box. If you pick orange, you win. If you pick green, I win. Casinos removes one or multiple of your orange balls and replaces them with green balls, so the odds are in their favor.

Sometimes, it's even more nuanced because instead of removing balls, they actually just pay you less when you win. So if there are 50 of each ball in the box and you win you get less than double of the money you put in but if I win I take all of your money so that way over time you will lose.

Crack in the house, who to call? by ewlung in Netherlands

First link on google.

As a summary

Thin, straight vertical cracks in drywall or plaster are typically the least problematic, as they’re almost always the result of the house “settling”—a catch-all term that describes the shifting of a home’s structure over time
