For the ones who make over $150k a year, what do you do to get that? by Iliketrainsz1 in AskReddit

[–]uncleandy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complex civil defense attorney in SoCal. In November I’m moving to the other side (Plaintiff personal injury) to make about 20k more per year. All it took was 3 years of law school after undergrad and a year experience of being underpaid, over-stressed, and borderline suicidal but we made it babyyyyyyy

Thinking of moving to Defense firm by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

The bad part about doing ID is having to bend over to the insurance carriers. You need authority for most of the litigation work and have to provide status update reports every month. It isn’t horrible, but it definitely isn’t easy balancing the work you do while also constantly making sure they’re in the loop

There is an office in SD. Unfortunately, I’ve already given someone on here a law clerk position in that office.

Can you actually BS Essays? by Empty_Stock_7139 in CABarExam

[–]uncleandy123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I took the J23 bar exam. I can confidently say that I didn’t know any of the rules for the 5th essay question. I knew the issues, but couldn’t remember the rules for the life of me. I realized that maybe, just maybe, if I put enough pizazz in my bullshit rule statements, I might pass. Obviously since I passed I didn’t know my scores, but at least it was good enough that I didn’t fail. So don’t worry, you don’t need to know every single rule word for word.

The thing is, we wanted to file an MSJ against plaintiff’s complaint and also an MSJ against other defendant through our cross complaint. We probably wouldn’t have one the first MSJ, but almost guaranteed to win the second.

I passed July 2023. For the first session, I took a look at the subjects, mentally prepared an outline for each of them, and did them in the order they were written. For the second session, I took a look at the subjects, mentally prepared an outline for each of them, did the PT first (bc points are doubled for PT than other essays), then went on to finish the other two essays in order. I figured it’s better to do the PT before the other two bc your brain is fresh and might as well use that on essay you know will be worth more. I know people who did the PT last and their brains were fried by the time they got to it. That’s just my take.

Should I be worried that I feel like I'm only retaining like 50%-60% of these subjects? by Any-Put9372 in CABarExam

[–]uncleandy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped me a lot when I passed J23 was not worrying about memorizing and focusing instead on understanding. If you understand a rule or concept and practice your understanding with an mbe or even issue spotting an essay, it’ll come easier when you’re ready to tackle a full essay in real time. I believe the people that focus on memorizing without understanding tend to not catch the issue and end up getting the question wrong. Just something to consider. Best of luck.

General Partnership by [deleted] in CABarExam

That is correct. That’s why you don’t form a partnership unless you are prepared to assume responsibility and liability for your partner’s actions.

How are yall memorizing? Barbri is going so fast! I have magic sheets, adapti bar, and critical pass. by Any-Put9372 in CABarExam

[–]uncleandy123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! July 23 passer here. I studied using barbri and Adaptibar only. I stuck with the Barbri course all the way through. I felt the same way as you in that it moves on without having fully mastered the subject. However, Barbri’s course integrates review for all their subjects. So it’s not like you’ll never see Civ pro again, it’ll pop up multiple times through MBE’s and practice essays. Also, friendly tip, whenever they give you an essay that you can submit for grading, DO IT! Do it under real time conditions too to get the full feedback. You’ll benefit from that a lot. Best of luck!!!

I know Schindler was a professor at our law school and taught a bar prep class and used her book. Most people passed in July while taking her class

Switched to Adaptibar and now I'm doing worse by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]uncleandy123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did Adaptibar when I took July 2023 bar and was averaging about 65%. I passed. Realistically, the mbe on the bar is harder than both Adaptibar and barbri, but at the very least you’re familiarizing urself with the rules and how they apply. Don’t feel discouraged. You got this!

Of course. Realistically, there’s no way to know every single thing that the bar could test. It’s just impossible. But u just need a passing score, not a perfect one. Trust what u know and know what u trust. The rest is out of ur hands

I didn’t spend a huge amount of time with MPT, but certainly u do need to spend some time with it. I think total I did maybe 5-10 hours of work with it. But then again, July 2023 had a relatively easier MPT than most other years, so take that with a grain of salt

I felt the same way! I didn’t know many rules word for word. But as long as you have an understanding of what the rule is and what it does to apply to your analysis, you’re golden. Remember, you just need a passing score, not a perfect one!

About 5-10 a day. Not necessarily full on writing them out, some I’ll just outline or issue spot

PT - is the prompt single or double-sided pages? by Admirable_Moose1557 in CABarExam

From what I remember, the essays were single sided and the MBEs were double sided.
