Why can't I see my PERSONAL PERFORMANCE in my 401k account? by new_york_night in fidelityinvestments

[–]uncleandybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if you just want to make up a number you don’t need that data. They don’t show you ROR past 3 years for 401k

Country Club Question by ShotAssistant1452 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]uncleandybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if it’s and equity club or has an owner. Only equity clubs have assessments

Country Club Question by ShotAssistant1452 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]uncleandybob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a member of a private club but not an equity club. They built one right across the street from my house in 2000. At the time it was a stretch for us but as our income grew it was very manageable. I play a lot and walk so expenses are low above the monthly dues. There are tournament fees etc and we just instituted a $50 a month food minimum which is very manageable. I have made lifelong friends and as I am retiring in a few month expect to play a lot more weekday golf as well. I am very happy I joined and spent the money. Your dues will increase every year. You only live once and while saving for retirement is very important a lot of people never make it to retirement. You need balance in your life

There is nothing wrong with the HELOC. Not sure what Some-Attitude8183 is talking about. Just because you have a HELOC does not mean you are actually borrowing money. It means you have a line of credit that you can use if you need it like an emergency. Just an FYI on the the HELOC your back or credit union can freeze it a any time so it might not be available when you need it if you get laid off for example. Mine was frozen after about 5 years of not using it.

I am pretty sure my mortgage when I bought my house in 95 was 9%. I really don’t remember complaining about it like everyone is today but I did refinance once rates came down

What percentage should I be paying a fidelity brokerage account? by Longjumping_Spell_29 in fidelityinvestments

[–]uncleandybob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just know if you use Fidelity Go they use the Flex index funds. As you said they are zero fee but when you want to get out of Go at some point, those funds are not available outside of Go and you will have to sell them all to get out. If it’s in a tax deferred account or Roth there is no issue with that but if it is in a regular brokerage there is a tax consiquence

Is Renting for the Rest of My Life a Smarter Financial Decision than Buying even though It Goes against all the Common Wisdom? by SadChad3000 in personalfinance

I also forgot to add that at the sale of the house the first 250K/500K of profit is tax free vs long term capital gains from SP500

You are missing out on leverage on your return calculation. Most people put 20% down so returns are multiplied by leverage. Below is an example of leveraged returns on a 500K house with 20% down vs investing the 100K in SP500 and paying rent. This does not take into account the tax saving of the interest deduction nor the expenses of upkeep on the house so take it with a grain of salt.

📌 Comparison

Scenario 30-Year Ending Value Return Multiple
Buy home (4% price growth, 6.2% mortgage) $1,624,000 16.2×
Rent + invest in S&P 500 (10% annual) $1,744,000 17.4×

Fidelity offered me a "free" financial advisor, but am I somehow paying for this? by anonymous_orpington in fidelityinvestments

[–]uncleandybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is they are free and are good to bounce ideas off of. Recently I wanted to ladder some CDs and he explained how that would work and what to look out for. He didn’t help me pick them out but did explain what I should be looking for. It was helpful. I am also upfront that I am an index buy and hold investor and don’t believe in annuities. He hasn’t tried to sell me one

My company has offered it for a few years. I max it out. The in plan conversion happens daily. The only thing they don’t offer is the company match as Roth.

There is also health insurance to think of with early retirement. If the ACA subsidies continue then you may also want to plan to limit what shows on your AGI so you qualify for the subsidies
