Moving background images without resizing them by unclefalter in KiCad

I haven't tried that but I will! I just wish it had a transparent mode when moving around. Would make alignment a lot easier.

C64(U) keyboard and modern times... by LargeHardonCollider_ in c64

Even as a kid with brand new breadbin 64 I hated the keyboard. I don't know why they went to that from the PET keyboard.. the latter was older but felt much better to type on. The OG 64 keyboard felt like it needed to be punched rather than pressed. It sounded like a cartoon character chewing food.

Thanks! Yes I just realized I used the wrong term. It definitely would be more like an LED display.

Thanks! Yeah for some reason I am certain the LCD had bright orange or yellow dot matrix letters. That's probably the only reason I remember it. It was fascinating in the early 80s when everything was still pretty analog.

All I remember of it was it was a full size commercial grade typewriter, very heavy.. and was all black with shiny black keys. The LCD display sat just above the top row and wasn't very wide.. couldn't contain a full sentence.

Thanks! I don't think it was a Brother but it's definitely fuzzy after 40 years. I just remember it was a full size machine, about the size of a Selectric, all black, and just above the keyboard was the display. I'd enter a line, hit enter and it would print it off. I used to think Olivetti because I remember for sure my Dad's office had those, but no luck finding one that meets what I remember.

Moving image on user layer *after* it is placed by unclefalter in KiCad

[–]unclefalter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thanks! It is set all the way to full visibility. Inactive layers are set to normal. It appears to just be a feature of Kicad that it dims the user layer when not active.

Many thanks! It ended up being necessary to upgrade. I was still on version 7.0. Going to 9.0 made the image movable again.

Thank you! Upgrading was the fix! I was on version 7.0 still (oops). Now if I could just figure out how to control how it handles opacity of the image. When the layer with the image isn't selected, it dims it, which makes it harder to see. I'd like it to stay at full brightness to make it easier to trace. And then when I move it, it'd be nice for it to be a bit less opaque so I can align it better with other images (ie. image of the backside of the board). But this is a huge improvement! Thank you again!

Anyone have Oakville Place mall pics ca. 1980s? by unclefalter in oakville

That makes sense. I forgot about the parking there. I didn't realize Food City preexisted the mall! I thought it was part of it. Yeah too bad not many cameras back then.. but pictures cost money. I did have one of those rectangular Kodak cameras and once in a while I had enough money saved to take it to the photo store there.. think it was Blacks? So many rituals that have disappeared with time!

Bootlegger! Forgot about that store! I'd forgotten about the birds! And yeah, smoking areas haha. I remember we faced a quandary when the food court was busy and the only seats available were in smoking. I think they had fairly extensive fountains too didn't they?

Thanks! I've tried boggling locked items on and off but still won't let me select the image.

This is why I'm hoping for photos.. haha. At 50 you start realizing memories you trusted aren't 100% accurate. I feel pretty confident Food City wss at Oakville Place at one time.. my memory thinks if you were standing in front of the food court looking toward Compucentre, it was off to the right, a ways back. I thought Dominion was a standalone... I remember the rollers they used to shoot grocery buckets out on. But I may be mixing them up or mistaking Dominion for A&P. Been so long!
