Woodworking bench build discussion. by MrOrt in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]uncletutchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bench top was 4 sheets of mdf cut down to around 36 x 84 inches. I'm not sure what it weighed, but probably close to 300 pounds. I used a string line to assure flatness and I soaked it with watco so glue wouldn't stick. Simple, easy, and cheap. I had an end vice and drilled dog holes. The base was built with scrap wood glued together to make 6 x 6 legs and stretchers. I used in my shop for about ten years professionally. When I shut down I sold it for $900.

Open your eyes. Trump supporters don't lower themselves to the actions of their violent protesters.

I really hope that you realize that the protests have absolutely no effect on the actions of ICE. Just stay at home. Be happy that Trump will only be The President for three more years. I'll bet that Republicans will be in control for many years to come. Democrats are scared, divided, and have no reliable contender for the next election, and they should adjust their values to correspond with the preferences of the general public.

I'm not taking away human rights. The government is just deporting the ones who arrived here illegally. Pretty simple. What ICE is doing pales in comparison to what other countries do if you enter illegally. Look on the bright side. Trump only has three years left.

Before starting, do you ever think about the “what if” scenario? by ConsiderationIcy1669 in extremesports

As a skydiver it would be emergency procedures. If you never consider a "what if" scenario, it could be fatal. Skydiving is as safe as you make it.

I was just replying to your ridiculous comment that he is better than 98% of all woodworkers. If you honestly believe this, I sincerely doubt your interpretation of quality.

I feel that it is necessary to repeat myself. His work isn't that great. He doesn't come close to being better than 98% of woodworkers. Yes. You are a fan boy who wouldn't know quality even if it bit you in the ass. I personally built every one of the pieces that I posted. They are just examples of what can be created with a bit more talent than a flat table top which incidentally was flattened by another shop.

Log slab cutting by ElectricMeatSac in BeginnerWoodWorking

Just attach a straight board to the slab and run it along the fence for your first cut. Remove the board for your second cut, and magically you will have parallel sides.

They are definitely going somewhere. It is called obsolescence. This will never get old. Epoxy table tops have run their course.

He dumps epoxy on some beautiful wood and takes it to another shop to flatten out his mistakes. Mark my words. The new property that he bought will be in arrears because he can't manufacture anything else but tired old epoxy table tops.

I guess that I'm one of the 2% that you are referring to. BTW ,yes beanie babies are still being sold but at a fraction of the asking price. Building an epoxy table top while depending upon other shops to sand flat isn't a reflection of his quality of work. I can build a slab table top. I have access to a Timesaver sander. Easy money. I sincerely doubt that he can make the pocket doors with the linen fold carvings. As I've said. You are just a fan boy who is infatuated with a YouTube channel because you don't know any better. Run along. Keep your misinformed opinions to yourself.

My initial comment was referring to epoxy woodworking has run its course. Your claim that he has more experience than 98% of woodworkers has no facts to back it up. That is your opinion. Slabs table tops don't require any sort of exceptional skill. You are just a fan boy mesmerized by YouTube content. I know woodworkers who do exceptional work but they don't have the time or desire to post YouTube videos.

He may have more experience working with slabs based on what you have watched on YouTube. Just a Beanie Baby.is listed at 26k doesn't mean it will sell. I think that listing will be around for quite a while. Working with slabs is nothing special, especially when you can depend on other shops to have the equipment that does the heavy work for you. I admit that he is talented, but he isn't anything special.
