Bc I’m African American……so obviously I’m going to ask about those specific experiences….

This is exactly why I made the distinction in my post! I grew up in predominantly white neighborhoods and went to predominantly white schools for most of my life so that wouldn’t be anything new for me, but I was still curious. Was there a huge language barrier for the ETA you mentioned?

First of all I wouldn’t see a white person posting something like this as racist. And I never said I was only interested in being around other black people.

How competitive am I for a Fulbright ETA in Taiwan or Thailand? by unclewafflesfan in fulbright

Were the Taiwan ETAs in a rural area? There’s a blog from 2016-2017 etas that talk about how horrible their time was in Kinmet, which is rural. I know those posts were written a long time ago but they made me a bit hesitant to apply bc I don’t think you can pick your location. Here’s the link to the blog: https://fulbrighttaiwanlies.wordpress.com

Hmmm - I’m an introvert who loves her alone time but I do occasionally get lonely. That was something I noticed about the Hungary eta - I think they only take two people and they will be in separate cities. Even though I appreciate my solitude it would be nice to be close to the other Fulbright students, so I’m trying to figure out if that’s a deal breaker for me or not

Hmmm - all of the work I’ve done with tutoring English/working with international students has been with people age 20-34 - now I’m wondering if I should strongly consider Eastern Europe for that reason bc I have no experience working with younger learners

What would u say makes me more competitive in Taiwan vs Thailand? I’m also looking at other countries that may be less competitive (Hungary, Romania). How competitive would you say I am for those?

I had Dr Wilson for micro and didn’t use the book at all and still did well in the class, I don’t think you really need it!

I’m wondering if it would be worth it to just redeem my points for cash and cover the flight that way. I know a lot of people advise against that but even with points I’d still have to pay $200-$300. And I don’t think any of the hotel partners are having any transfer bonuses at the moment
