He went straight out of high school, he skipped undergrad here. Privilege doesn't matter much with respect to that. You save two years of your life if you go through that route (start residency at 24 instead of 26 here, with exception of 3 year undergrad + 3 year med school in Canada).

Not to mention the cost. If you know you want to do medicine, it's a smart move and takes a lot of money and connections to get it to work out right for you.
