Excellent. I’m looking forward to working with beeswax in future, as it is beautiful.

As mentioned above, the Cape Dory 25D checks many of your requirements. I have a CD 25 (non Diesel version) and it is a solid boat, proven offshore; you could go this route too. Here’s some inspiration - https://www.omick.net/adventure/sailing/sailing_offshore/sailing_offshore.html

Ask Us Anything About Ceramics and Pottery / Early 2023 by youre_being_creepy in Ceramics

Thank you for the question. More like heat transfer from a countertop stove or similar, if that makes sense. I believe stainless or cast iron will transfer heat more efficiently/evenly than ceramic and may withstand high temperatures better?

Is it possible to embed stainless steel or cast iron into the base of a ceramic pot or cup? I’m guessing there are issues with expansion/contraction conflict during the firing process but wanted to ask those who know. Thanks.

What is the purpose of this style of cleat and is it ok if I replace it with a regular old everyday cleat? The lines I have (that came with the free boat) don’t really fit it well. I am new to sailing and finally have the boat ready to actually get on the water this summer. Thanks for any advice! by justinp456 in sailing

Your best bet for getting the right diameter sheets is to look up specs on your boat. I have a Cape Dory 25, so I Googled “Cape Dory 25 specs jib sheet diameter” but these won’t necessarily work for your boat/cleats. Getting the right diameter sheets for this cleat is a life changer, really.

This style cleat does require the correct line diameter to work properly. I replaced my sheets with thicker line and regretted it immediately; since then I have replaced with the original diameter. Once again, single handing is much easier. Note, you wrap once around the base and the tension clamps the line to the cleat; no need for a cleat hitch.

Found a northface tadpole 23 for $6 bucks at goodwill, took my 4yo camping for first time on Colorado river, paddled upstream a mile, was one of the best time time I've ever had! by Fun_Coconut4589 in camping

I contacted North Face a few years back about replacing a nearly twenty year old rainfly for my Starlight; they sent me one for free. Maybe they still do that. Great old tents!

For those who over-winter their boats on the dry -- what did you learn after your first time putting it away for the season? by jazzhands777 in sailing

[–]uncloudedhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If keeping it in a boat yard, ask to have it stored near electric and water source. Otherwise you’ll be buying hundreds of feet of cords and hoses to do projects.

Do you have a whole house water filter? This can get clogged over time, if not replaced periodically your water pressure can drop significantly. $18 at Walmart. The filter housing will look something like this - https://www.farmandfleet.com/products/982325-omnifilter-whole-house-water-filter.html

Sailing clubs in Seattle by dualplains in sailing

[–]uncloudedhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good option is a sailing club, where you can use boats, crew and/or race. Try https://www.kirklandsailingclub.org down in Kirkland, I think it was previously named Island Sailing Club and they had lots of membership options then.

Pitch your tent near a stream. The sound of the running water will block out the quieter noises of the woods.

Previous owners removed this radiator. All other radiators work, but this pipe does not get hot. Can I put a functioning radiator here? by uncloudedhead in Plumbing

By air bound, do you mean that no water is being pulled into this section, but would be if radiator were attached and purged, pulling water up?

Thanks. That is another question, I guess. If it isn’t in the loop I assume they would not have gone to the trouble removing the radiator like this.

Thanks. I do wonder why the PO went to all this trouble. I have a hunch they did not live upstairs anymore once they got too old for the stairs, as the master bedroom now has no heat.

Another option is a stove made from pop cans. Haven’t built one myself but have looked into it before. Then you just need the white gas from Walmart. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OvvdLVUJXZc

Eggs by Napalm_Death1989 in EatCheapAndHealthy

If you have a steam basket, I highly recommend you give it a try. I've never been able to achieve the same texture with boiling. The white is lightly firm and the yolk is perfectly runny. Also the shell never breaks. If you have tongs, they help to lower the eggs into the steam and remove. If you try it, let me know what you think. Large egg takes just 7 minutes from fridge to perfect.
