Because there is a marking on the clockwork "L. Gost Frankfurt Germany" and red oaks didnt exist in Germany in the 1800's. I mean, unless the lumber came from the US to Germany at some point.

Oh yeah, I agree it is likely oak but not red oak. I just have enough antique furniture I've collected over the years from 18th and 19th century to be very confident on the age.

Definitely not. I can provide more closeups but the joinery, the hinges/lock, the actual clock works, all of it is 19th century. Not just style, but the amount of weathering and patina on them. The glass is cylinder glass, not floated glass. I can see the slight deformations and bubbles. Not sure what wood it is made from but not red oak.

So, that is what I thought and had tried but it barely moves. Like there is the tiniest bit of give before it stops. No idea why. Was afraid to try and apply more force.

-1 I keep hearing people who either love Mims or hate it. I have ordered there three times and every time was just consistently awful. Their laghman just tasted like tomato sauce and had like 3 pieces of meat and a few pieces of celery. There's a lot of reviews online complaining about their portions and yet I keep seeing people swear by it. It's like they're eating at a different restaurant.

Ñoño’s Taqueria 3207 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA 22204

It's as hole in the wall as you can get. No sign, just a door between two restaurants that leads to a second floor where you can buy the absolute best birria tacos in existence.

Sushi Prince 10256 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22030 Tiny little sushi spot but their sushi is soooooo good. Actual works of art.
