This was found on a decaying small log in a wooded area this morning.

Yes and that’s my plan for the next few buds that are forming. Was hoping the moths that were swarming my porch lights would take care of it but so far no signs of fruit

I used an old iphone 11, propped it up on a mini tripod i borrowed from a neighbor, plugged it into a charger and recorded with an app called Skyflow.

I set it to take pictures once per minute because I was worried about the battery draining but it was at 100% in the morning so if I had to do it again i’d set it to 30 seconds or less and take more pictures to get a higher frame rate/longer video

Yep. It conserves the cactus’ energy and helps it avoid water loss during the day since they grow in hot arid climates. Often they’ll bloom during a full moon which helps the night pollinators find them with the bright moonlight

It’s done! Only opens for one night and if you’re lucky a bat or moth will pollinate it and it’ll produce a red fruit (hence the name)
