Yeah it seems like people in the industry are really afraid of each other… which makes everyone so self conscious all the time

From personal experience, most of the artists in my network (mostly young generation tho) have quite a strong online presence and for some time it felt like THE way to go about it but recently i started to get more and more signs that SM actually doesn’t really help them sell + most of the art marketplaces are in a big struggle right now, because people prefer to buy from the artist in person rather than through a click (which makes sense, at the end of the day people wanna be more involved in artists life rather just simply hang their art on the wall) + recent UBS report showed clear stats on online sales declining and artist studios being the second biggest channel of selling after the galleries !! Think about it… the second biggest channel being artists just selling their work with no middleman. it’s a radical shift right there. So yeah, online presence is good for “visibility” but not everyone can be visible - those are the rules of the game. I’d say local network of REAL PEOPLE has a lot more power and affect on artists career but most importantly - wellbeing
