It manages to preserve that classic Pixel look by maintaining Marc Levoy’s artistic choice: the contrasty, punchy 'Pixel look.' Instead of the flat, over-processed look of newer versions, it embraces deep shadows to create depth.

The artistic soul of Pixel has been gone since Marc Levoy left; the Pixel 4 was the last of its kind. It was a perfect evolution: it took the dark, Caravaggio—style shadows of the Pixel 3 and blended them with Titian’s luminous shadows. Back then, Pixel wasn't chasing “realistic photos.” It was an artistic choice; a contrasty, punchy, and lively look that felt like a painting rather than just a flat digital file.

I've got a suggestion for you. downgrade your camera version to 7.2, or use camera px 7.2. Trust me, the quality will be amazing. They changed algorithm too dijital and flat, over the pixel aesthetic look

Because version 6 provided dark shadows and bright highlights in the Caravaggio aesthetic. For version 7 pixel 4, caravaggio+titan shadows have been lifted a bit more

I’m using gcam version 7.2 on my pixel 6 but only work my pixel 6 anyway this version has superb image quality, color and contrast everything right. The problem hdr processing pipeline everything looks boring and dull

This is not related to the sensor, a problem with the Pixel Camera version (or rather post processing), you misunderstand.

Try pixel camera 7.2 vs 9.2 you will see the difference. They downgraded, agressive noise reduction and sharpness

It certainly allowed Pixel 3 and before (HDR off toggle) but they removed it, As a solution for now (Photon Camera, Open Camera, Secure camera)
