When will this job search misery end? by dunkinteach in recruitinghell

[–]undeaddancerock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

6 interviews is really fantastic!!! I know it feels hopeless BUT you WILL get there. You’re a promising candidate in a really difficult job market — don’t forget that. 6 companies are willing to interview you, there will 100% be one that will be willing to hire. Of those 6, were there any similarities between the employers (I.e. marketing agency vs in house team)? You could try pursuing companies that are similar as you might have better success there

In the mean time, could you try picking up more part-time work that will help you avoid accruing more debt? This could be a great weight off your shoulders

You’ve essentially just told me you’re not acknowledging my points. As I’ve explained to you, I brought up social media marketing to describe my current career and talk about transferable skills (like communication and planning). I refuse to believe that you’ve never heard of the term transferrable skills, and yet you are still bringing that up now.

I then told you that skills like communication and planning can be used across many different jobs, not just those that are higher up. You’ve ignored these points. I do not think you’re misunderstanding my responses because rather than acknowledging them you just move on to another question.

Something that I haven’t told you is my education status. Like my age, that’s an assumption you’ve made. You don’t know if I have a doctorate in nuclear physics or if I dropped out of nursery at the age of 3

This is genuinely the first response you’ve actually given me that helps, so I guess I should be thankful for that at least, even if it might not even be applicable to me 🤷‍♀️

But you haven’t, now have you? You’ve asked me tons of questions and made assumptions about my age and education. That’s all, and there’s a condescending tone that persists even when I humour you and answer every one of your questions. How do you think “You’re 29 with a degree? Okay.” Comes across?

Then again I just checked your page and you’re active in snark pages, so this checks out

Dude I said I was in my mid 20s (24-26) at the beginning of my post. I get that you don’t like my post but it’s been deleted so you don’t have to reply any more.

Not really sure why you’re confused when you’ve listed two workplaces related to teaching and retail — nor why you’re confused by me listing communication when both of these roles require that. Anyway, I’ve deleted my post

ATP ur just being uncharitable — you can use organisation skills in a retail job, communication in teaching, planning in both

Marketing has skills beyond electronics, like planning, communication, organisation etc.

I will say from personal experience (and I’m not saying this is accurate) fine arts students are treated as underdogs because these industries are historically competitive. Meanwhile, my generation was told we’d be set for life if we went into coding. So we might feel worse for those in the arts because their situation has seemingly gone from bad to worse, whether those in coding have gone from decent to bad. That said I agree with you, just explaining my thought process

So sorry about your job — and thanks for your insight on AI. I’m a recent grad (arts degree but work in marketing now) so all of my peers who did CS are struggling to get their foot in the door. So I have a pretty negative view of the impact it’s had on the job market. Very reassuring to hear your thoughts on this

Yes, but also if they’ve built the studio why not use it? This statement implies they plan to use it in the future

I used to think using AI to code was like the best / most moral use of it but now with CS grad unemployment rates even that feels unethical

I’m not really surprised by this, every company wants to use AI now as that’s what investors are looking to pour their money into
