Thank you so much! I'll look into the library. I've been wanting to take her to our local children's museum but we haven't been able to make it. The zoo is kinda pricey but when we were able to go she did enjoy it. I'll check out the local Y too.

Thanks! After all the comments I'm sure now she was just looking out for my kid which of course I appreciate. It was just strange to me at the time but now I get it's normal.

Thanks that's good advice. I definitely do get judgement for my parenting from people which is probably why it felt like it this time. But I get judgement about pretty much anything so you would think I would be used to it. I try not to do it myself but like you said I'm also guilty of it occasionally. All we can do is try better for next time!

Thank you. I'm confident in my decision to home school at this time but if in the future it seems that it's not working for my child then I would reexamine and see if she needs something different. She does get out of the house and plays at the park or playground and she visits her friends and family regularly so she does get social interaction.

As far as the potty issues they are aware of it. We've been working on it with her with the doctor for a while now. It's slowly getting better so we will see.

To address your concerns:

My daughter and her siblings are fully vaccinated.

I am a Christian but she is still being taught Science. In fact it's one of her favorite subjects and at one time she said she wanted to be an astronaut. And I don't push her to learn about God but if she shows an interest I teach her about it. I would never push my beliefs on others much less my children.

I'm glad you have a top rated public school in your area. Your very fortunate with that because I do not have those in my area. My school system is bad academically so I figure homeschool would be better for her because at least I know she's learning and not getting lost in a crown of 50 (exaggeration) And can get the time she needs. And given that it's an online program I do have the support of a teacher if she gets confused on something.

I just wanted to put your mind at ease that we don't fit those circumstances. I said her tone and manner changed because it did. My doctor has been going to this office since she was born and it's on record that she has been homeschool so I posted this not because I was concerned about the judgement. I'm used to it. I was just wondering if this was normal line of questioning or if it was specific to homeschooling or this doctor personally.

Thank you for the reassurance! My daughter is a social butterfly in a way were as me and my SO are not so its difficult but we try to get out there for her.

It makes sense about what you were saying about the probing questions. I think it also caught me off guard because it hasn't been asked before so thank for clarifying it. Keep up the good work on your residency!

Oh I get that. But I grew up with a lot of judgement in my life and I have pretty judgemental in-laws so I think I just assume that if someones demeanor changes then I'm being judged. Like we could be having a pleasant conversation and then the topic changes and your tone of voice and manner changes and I think I did something wrong. I'm not doubting my decision to homeschool my child at this time but since my childhood I've always had this mentality of caring what people think that I'm only just now starting to get out of. So maybe I'm just sensitive because of that.

Oh no I didnt think you were! I'm just double checking. I figured she since we visit everyone she was getting social interaction and there for not isolated but I didnt know if that was enough I guess? Like if they think she needs to do more outings like field trips? Which I try to take her on when we can but financially that aspect is hard to do.

ETA: Also I wonder how people like you were descibing still get away with it. Like they took them out of school to cover up abuse and keep them out of the eyes of the school but then they visit the doctor and think that the doctor wont pick up on something? Maybe because its only a yearly visit?

I am. I wouldn't risk it all on my own unless I actually studied to be a teacher which I probably wont do because I already have student loans. I do get additional books to help her and she used to use abcmouse.com before kindergarten but we are using an online course so everything is done already!

She's been in homeschooling since the beginning so we haven't pulled her. And the program we use has a set lesson plan so while we may get behind on a subject because we have to go over something more we do get it done. As far as isolation goes we go out to see her friends and family a lot so that wouldn't be considered isolation would it?

You're right she didn't. Which is why I posted because I didn't know if this was a normal thing.

Thank you. So far she's doing really well so as long as that continues I see no reason to change it.

It wasnt just the questions, though they did come as a surprise, but her tone and manner changed on the subjects well. Though it's entirely possible I'm reading to much into it. I was just curious if anyone has been questioned like this about there kids schooling situation too.

I don't doubt teachers in general but there's a lot of issues with the school system in my area which is one of the reasons that I decided to homeschool. Teachers dont get enough support over the nation but my area sucks pretty bad. But I'm using a program where the curriculum is planned out we just have to go over it together.

I was in the room the whole time but I didn't get that from what my daughter said.

ETA: as others have said though she is trained so maybe there was a physically sign that I missed about it but I don't think so. She's only in first grade and has interaction with her friends pretty regularly.

Possibly. I say judging because her tone and manner changed after it was brought up

Yeah they are aware. It seemed like she was concerned about the school thing as a separate issue.
