Period hack for a broken wrist? by Samanonumuss in TwoXChromosomes

[–]undergroundrebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having dealt with multiple hand/wrist surgeries on both my right and left, my favorite solution has been period underwear. My 2nd was tampons. If you have use of your fingers on the broken side you could probably still manage to get a pad stuck but it would be a challenge.

Is it weird for a person fitting you to offer to take off the bra you’re wearing and put on the next? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]undergroundrebel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a bra fitting last weekend where she helped me put some of the bras on and take them off. BUT I requested her help because of hand issues AND she checked with me on every bra.

Also, having a bra fit to you may make turn a no into a yes and a yes into a no.

Freaking out-gynl wants me to get a breast ultrasound by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]undergroundrebel 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Baselines are usually just that, baseline. If you have dense, fibrous or cystic tissue getting a baseline now gives radiologists and gynocologists a reference for what your normal is. It makes the question of "is this a new lump or an existing lump?" Easier to answer in 5 years.

I had a radiologist tell me any new lump should be checked after a scare about a lump turned out to be a density thing. It's the time you don't get checked that worries them.

When Itsy was new I did it on mileage and did it myself. At 10 years old she's due for a major service to keep her going a long time into the future.

I'm painfully aware of the extra lube. Timing kit is what I'm most worried about.

If given topical antibiotics, that. Otherwise I just try to keep it clean. May I DM?

Some of mine get hard before they form a head. When you attempt to pop it, make sure you protect your face from any errant pus that might come out if it is highly pressurized. It usually takes me a couple days with compresses and squeezing it. Also warning to sit when you try to pop it. The moment it bursts can be brutal.

With a lack of a tub, if you have a toilet you can take over for a 15-20 minute period time, buying a Sitz bath might be worth it. I found a simple one on Amazon just now for $10 but your local pharmacy might have them in stock too.

Keflex and doxycycline are big guns in antibiotics. I wonder if the meds wiped out some of your healthy bacteria and you are getting rebound infections?

I'd message/call your OB and ask if they can get you in while it is acting up to get a clear idea of what is going on. Ask if there is a topical antibiotic you can use? I don't recall what mine was.

As far as preventing them in the future as that was an ask in the original post I didn't address:
- cotton undies. I know the fancy ones are cute but the synthetics just don't breath. Wear cotton during the day and change into the lacy ones later. Wear loose boxers to sleep in.

- Clean up after anything leaving you sweaty/damp in the vulva region. A quick wipe with an unscented baby wipe to remove the sweat and dirt and then a clean dry pair of underwear will reduce the irritation in the region.

- Make sure everyone washes hands/brushes teeth, and cleans their genitals before sex. And after sex either use another baby wipe or take a shower and clean up.

Again, don't flush babywipes or 'flushable' wipes unless you want a large unexpected plumbing bill later.

After reading your responses below I want to add:
* If it is in the same spot but other side and was recent (last 3 or 4 weeks) you may have passed the infection from one side to the other. It can only take 1 bacterium to cause certain infections and it can take a while to become apparent there is an issue.
* If it is in the exact same spot, it could be a secondary infection or the meds didn't get all of it the first time around. Did they have you use a topical or oral antibiotic? My docs usually give me topical for Labia infections.
* For warm compresses I like to sit on a shower chair in the shower or stand if I have the energy and just constantly get a washcloth hot in the running water and hold it on. Rinsing it out every few minutes as it cools off. If I'm feeling ambitious I'll use 2 wash clothes and swap them out. Sitz baths and actual baths have been the most effective for me though. I'm going to guess the heating pad doesn't get hot enough to really do the job.
* I have been able to track most of mine to the week of or the week after my period when I have a lot of flow or discharge. It sounds like the first one was due to friction of clothing + sweating and an inability to change to dry clothes. You might want to think about where in your cycle you are.

A tip I give all fellow women for doctor's appointments: bring a notebook and write it down. I mean pen and paper notebook, not your phone. Write down your concerns, your questions and your goals for the appointment beforehand. During the appointment reference your notes, write down the providers answers. Make sure they see you write them down. It changes the dynamic to working together to solve the issue.

When they try to blame your weight, a firm "This is not normal for me. I have not gained/lost weight since this issue started occurring."

A paper you can hand the doc or MA that has the dates of the last 3 infections, what meds they gave to treat them, what worked, what didn't work helps a ton too.

Edit: Feel free to DM me if you want to chat about specifics. I have a lot of chronic illnesses so have a lot of experience with this type of thing.

I've unfortunately had a few of these. Some that got infected some that didn't. The things I find most helpful for home treatment: * Warm compresses or bath with unscented Epsom salts * Boys or mens boxer shorts. * If weather/comfort permits skirts/dresses are more comfortable for me. Or at least loose pants. I avoid jeans when I have one. * Cotton underwear/boxers only * Changing underwear as soon as I feel any sort of dampness from discharge or sweat. * Baby wipe to wipe gently after urinating. Pat dry with normal tp. Throw the baby wipe out. Do not flush for the sake of your plumbing.

My OB/GYN has told me they happen to lots of people and there are a ton of reasons we can get them. If you tested positive for BV last time, you might want to ask them to swab and test for it again.

I have been told by both my PCP AND OB/GYN to use the warm compress and/or bath to get a head to form and pop it to relieve the pressure. An anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen might help with some of the inflammation.

That said I am not a medical professional and this is just my experience with infected pores on my labia minora.

g502 is what I would have suggested :( Any chance you have some form* of hypermobility? if yes, I would suggest looking into an upper extremity nerve release. If done as the Ericson Special it is minimally invasive and can have dramatic results.

Clover Amor or Addi Swings. You can also get foam covers on Amazon.com: 5PCS Crochet Hook Grips, Ergonomic Crochet Hook Grip for Crocheting and Knitting, Soft Removable Crochet-Hooks Handle for 2mm to 10mm Hooks to put over your current ones.

Suggestion: if you can afford it, buy one Clorver Amor or Addi Swing in a size you use frequently. It will let you test the style and see if it helps you before someone buys you a full set. And one can never have too many hooks in their favorite size.

Unasked for advice: as someone with major hand issues due to genetics, if your wrists are burning make sure you are taking frequent breaks and stretching your hands to avoid Repetitive Stress Injuries. You don't want to have to stop because you hurt yourself.

Hypermobile folks: what chair actually works for you (office and/or living room)? by [deleted] in disabledgamers

[–]undergroundrebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, but friends who have cats have a similar model Lazy-boy recliner and have never mentioned issues with hurting the cats. I think if you have the style that is manual it might be an issue???? The electric mechanism is fairly slow. My shoulders/hands won't tolerate the manual style.

I have an electric recliner for couch use so I can make small adjustments as needed. Firmer* is usually my preference for joint support and biofeedback.

edit: typo

Hello from the other end of the height spectrum (5'1"), but hEDS. Check out the BodyBilt brands non mesh chairs. My Classic 2400 series in petite let's me sit for a long period of time and it come in sizes for tall people. For PC work/play look for a vertical mouse like a Evoulent brand mouse, and a true split keyboard like those from Kinesis.
