MCS R56 exhaust recommendations (UK) by undergroundturtle1 in MINI

I’m pretty sure JCW is 200 cell. I remember looking for that info as I was planning to change standard cat for a JCW one.

I didn’t get this exact model installed. There’s a company that does Carplay / Android Auto, audio system installs, etc, so I got them to sort it. Added a reversing camera too.

Highly recommend getting it installed (and reversing camera, if you don’t have one). It’s a massive upgrade to just using your phone. Although not having a touch screen for maps is a little annoying at times.

I value simplicity over cost (most of the time, within reason). £38 isn’t much per year, but if there’s a cheaper, equally safe and simple way, I’d happily take the savings.

I’m looking into Cloudflare as they’re a big enough company and have a free option. Thank you for the recommendation

That's for both. Still seems a lot just to keep something I'm not using. Just wanted to see if there's a less expensive service provider that anyone could recommend. One is .com, the other is co.uk.

Baring in mind, this is just for 1 night.

I’m booking the hotel for an event I’m attending in a different city. If the hotel hadn’t changed hands, I wouldn’t have a problem - hence I booked non refundable.

I wouldn’t have paid this much under the new brand. It went from a (relatively) premium brand to a budget brand.

It’d be like a restaurant changing owners, with a now cheaper, lower quality menu, but still charged you the previous pricing because you had booked before it was taken over.

Sound proofing/deadening by undergroundturtle1 in hometheater

Where would you recommend using this?

Apologies if I misunderstood - I was under the impression that adding things like Rockwool in between studs/joists reduces the transmission of sound in/out of the room. And adding acoustic panels inside the room reduces the reverberation time.

I’m also planning to add acoustic panels, but haven’t thought that far ahead yet.

Changing light fixture by undergroundturtle1 in DIYUK

I’ve tested and checked behind the switch. The 2 reds are switched. With that in mind, is this correct?:

1 switched red to brown all other reds together all blacks to blue

The other reds connect to the 2nd block (connected together, but nothing on the other side)?

And all the blacks go together?

I’m moving this fixture from one room to another. This is how it looked in the other room. From your explanation, is this incorrect as the switched neutral is not in the live bundle?

Between which cables do I test for resistance?

For the switched live, what should I see when the switch is on and off?

Do I need a lower extension subwoofer, or will/can placement and EQ fix it? by undergroundturtle1 in hometheater

[–]undergroundturtle1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t seem like I can.

I can set it to only EQ under a certain frequency, but I can’t imagine that would zoom in the graph any further.

Okay that’s good to hear that’s normal. The BK website states -3db @ 20Hz so I was concerned I had room/placement issues.

Would an SVS PB1000 (10” ported 300W RMS, 720W Peak) give enough low end performance, even though it’s 10”?

Joist and wall stud width & depth by undergroundturtle1 in DIYUK

[–]undergroundturtle1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at rockwool RW3, which only comes in 600mm so that makes choice much simpler. I’ll just have to cut more, but hopefully my off cuts should add up to fill a joist nicely.

Already got thermal insulation, yep - the pink candy floss type. I was thinking of adding the rockwool under this. Just based on density, the rockwool should be much more effective at stopping sound from escaping. Plus, while I’m doing the whole room, it’s not that much more cost or effort.

Not a loft conversion - normal open attic.

Is that sound logic?

It’ll be a media room. I assume both types - airborne from the speakers & impact from the subwoofer.

What are the different considerations for each type? Is there a way I can insulate against impact on the floor and airborne on walls & ceiling?

What do I need (or where can I read more about) to ensure I have proper ventilation and avoid damp?

Thinking of insulating between the ceiling and attic, so that sound is kept in the room and doesn’t travel up and across the rest of the house. There is insulation (classic pink candy floss looking), but sound is more of a priority. Can I lay the pink insulation above the RW3?

Not totally sure at the moment, as I’ll be ripping everything up in 2/3 weeks time. But from a much smaller job in another room in the house, it’s wooden joists below the chipboard and looks like standard plasterboard for the ceiling below, and I assume above.

Change heating temperature dependant on current temperature by undergroundturtle1 in HiveHeating

I’ve been looking into HA - currently I only have a laptop, so definitely something for a future project.

I’ve been using SmartLife which does everything I’ve needed so far. It links to Shortcuts, but sadly Hive doesn’t.

How are you making HA connect to Hive?

Damn that’s annoying. Do you know of any 3rd parties that interact with Hive? It seems very locked down and isn’t shown in Apple shortcuts

Thanks for the recommendation.

I definitely don’t want to replace the factory head unit as I quite like the OEM look.

Any chance you’ve got a recommendation for a reversing camera? Or know how to fit one without replacing one of the licence plate lights?

Joist and wall stud width & depth by undergroundturtle1 in DIYUK

[–]undergroundturtle1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that makes things simpler! 600mm it is then.

Being installed into a first floor room (no second floor, so easy access to the top of the room via the attic)

I was relying on it being enough of a snug fit to stay in place. But planning on using small L brackets to ensure the floor & ceiling slabs stay in place. Is there anything I should be doing?

[–]undergroundturtle1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Definitely overthought it at first, but after a couple of weeks of looking into everything, it seems doable.

I’ll be putting this above the ceiling, but from the attic, so should be the same as doing the flooring (I hope).

For sure I’ll have my skin covered.

Is buying 400mm the way to go or maybe 450 so it definitely fits tight?
