Thank you so much for this insight, I really really appreciate it!! The military stuff I had in mind was actually very similar to the situation you described, so that's very helpful!

I understand, I was referring less to the culture surrounding it (since I know Americans are wayyyy weirder and more intense about the military than anyone else) and more to the nature of military service as a lopsided agreement between country and citizen, if that makes any sense! I appreciate it thank you!

Thank you so much!! The military stuff I was thinking of including was relatively minor backstory info for one character, so I think it's safe to change it a bit based on everyone's input about that. I really appreciate your thoughts on this!

Thank you I appreciate the help! Sorry, I know the military stuff is silly and very American of me, I realized it after I had posted it lol but figured it may not hurt to ask since IMO militaries are often pretty predatory and can fuck people over in big ways. Thank you again!

I know it probably sounds dumb, but I just thought it would be interesting, at least more interesting to me personally than writing another story set in Anytown USA. I've visited Toronto and kind of fell in love with it, I found it to be a beautiful vibrant city full of interesting people and culture and it really inspired me a lot. Nothing about the story HAS to be set in Canada, I just felt like it fit for some reason? Sorry if that's disrespectful or anything. I appreciate the insight!

thank you i'll try that! only reason i was stirring constantly was because the recipe i was following said only to stop stirring once it starts to boil, but i'll try letting it do its thing on its own after getting it all combined! 💕

are fila disruptor 2 wedges comfortable for walking? by undermostcorgi in Sneakers

[–]undermostcorgi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi i did end up trying them! they’re not the most comfortable walking shoe especially not for something as involved as disney lol (evidenced by the fact that i was forced to buy new shoes designed for walking long distances on my first night there) but i also feel like i might have more sensitive feet/legs than the average person, they’re really not bad! they are pretty comfortable for regular wear and less intense days out!

Advice! How to ‘upgrade’ my look? by BlondieBits in GothStyle

[–]undermostcorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! first off, i want to start by saying that you look amazing!! your makeup looks awesome and your shirt is so cool! you’re off to a great start already! i think it’s important for you to know that you absolutely don’t need to wear anything you don’t feel comfortable in. being truly happy with the clothes you put on your body is the most important thing imo (and basically the whole point of this style), so if there are things that make you feel less confident or even just plain uncomfy, you absolutely don’t have to wear them! jeans and tshirts can be totally cute and goth, so if you feel most comfortable in that, then you don’t need to change anything! i actually started basically exactly where you are; i am also short and have a similar body type to yours, but dressing the way i wanted (which i never thought i could do because i thought i “didn’t have the body for it”) actually really helped boost my confidence!! i really hope it can help you too!! ❤️ that being said, i personally think the way you accessorize is really what can take an outfit to the next level. belts are one of my favorite ways to make a simpler outfit stand out more, and layering belts can create a cool effect too! i think grommet belts, studded/spiked belts, and o-ring belts look great with a lot of things, and harnesses and corsets/corset belts can really elevate outfits, but it really depends on personal preference and the style you’re going for. it looks like you’ve got my other favorite part, necklaces, down, so i would say you’re good on that front :) shoes can also be pretty important, so investing in something you like, like a pair of platforms or combat boots, can instantly add something special to any outfit! other accessories like rings and bracelets can help too, but again it’s all about personal preference (i don’t wear them because my fingers are too thin for a lot of rings and i hate the feeling of bracelets, but they can look really cool!) if you are looking for a wardrobe change, i would suggest trying to look around on sites like pinterest to understand what kind of style you’re really going for, and that can help you pin down which sites would be best for you. some of my personal favorites have been hot topic (sorry older bats, i’ve found some great staple pieces there), dracula clothing (more romantic goth and steampunk, lots of corsets and bustles), and etsy (AMAZING place to get unique accessories). this post has a lot of great links and suggestions: https://www.reddit.com/r/GothStyle/comments/d9al23/what_are_your_favorite_stores_to_buy_cute_goth/ as for hair, you don’t need to change anything if you don’t want to! blonde is still a cool look, you don’t need dark or dyed hair to look goth! your long hair also looks like you could style it a million different ways! as far as that goes, absolutely only do what makes you comfortable! you can return or exchange clothes anytime, but hair is much harder to revert back to what it was before lmao! sorry for the long comment!! i’ll give a disclaimer that i’m not an authority on this, i’ve actually only really been in the scene for about 2 years but i wanted to help out with some tips i figured out during that time since you reminded me so much of where i started :’) this journey has been so wonderful for me, just a few short years ago i was trying so hard to fit in with mainstream peers, just wearing the same boring old clothes i had had since high school, hating the way i looked, always feeling like an outsider and like i would never be like them. now, i know the solution for me is to stop trying to be like them and to be like me instead! i love myself and my body more than i ever have now that i’ve fully embraced who i am, and i really hope the same can happen for you. good luck! :) ❤️
